We were lucky to catch up with Nakyiah Blanks recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nakyiah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
The moment I knew I wanted to be an artist was when I five years old in my art class, the energy in the environment was so irresistible the paint, and the pencils. The moment I knew when I wanted to pursue my career in visual arts is when I was 14 years old in the 8th grade and I painted a portrait of
Muhammad Ali for gym teacher. This was the biggest sale of my career and the feeling of someone that appreciated and admired my art as much as I did felt like a breath of fresh air.
I was honored to participate in the art gallery at “Cabeza De Flor Art & Fashion show” in Charlotte, NC. The environment was elegant, urban, professional and classy just like me! It was very exciting and in those moments I knew I wanted more? A name? Disposition? Something that would leave a person’s mouth dropping with a peace of mind.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Nakyiah L Blanks, I am an artist based out of Charlotte NC and I am in the 10th grade, attend Northwest school of the arts. I think that my thought process sets me apart from other artists, I don’t create art because I know how but because this is something that I really enjoy and love doing. My art isn’t just my story, my art could be anyones story. The one thing that I am most proud of is that I am self taught with everything I do, from painting to sketching too brainstorming. I am authentic, genuine and real.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being an artists is being able to call it mine. To know that no one can can create art how I do.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
In my opinion society can give artists a chance in the art world and not knocking down every different art style someone has because it’s not traditional.
