Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nakia Starr. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Alright, Nakia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you take vacations? Why or why not?

Vacations are my definition of mixes business with pleasure. I find time to photograph my products in beautiful locations outside of LA. I always use travel as a way to get thinks accomplished without solely focusing on just business. It is really fun to learn about other cultures while growing your business.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My name is Nakia Starr and I have been an entrepreneur since the 5th grade. I started off selling school supplies in grade school to selling my own hair products as an adult. I have always been into healthy hair care. I started my journey one day when I was reading the Bible and it hit me to make my own hair products. It truly takes a lot of faith and diligence to keep going and believing in your self even when business is slow. I have faith in my products that they will continue to grow my business.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

I completely funded my business from my job. I have not received any loans or funding yet. I just self sacrifice to invest in my business.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?

My best source of clients are referrals. I have alot of clients from my friends and also from clients that tell their friends. I believe in business friends and human interaction is important.
