We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Naki Carey a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Naki , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What was it like going from idea to execution? Can you share some of the backstory and some of the major steps or milestones?
Ok so my mind is always going about what I want my collection to be and look like. When I first came up with my collection I would say I slightly failed. Things just didn’t go right and production was never finished.
I had this really fashionable, and stylish idea for leggings. I wanted them to look a certain way that you really don’t see, and I knew my followers would love them. I spent lots of money trying to make it work but it just didn’t..
So I just scratch the whole thing, and sat back and said what really makes since for me and my brand. So after putting things on pause for awhile.
I got inspired again to design, and create. But this time I didn’t want to do clothes. I wanted to do fashion accessories.
I wanted to design something that women could wear everyday, and it made them look and feel good.
So I went with hoop earrings. That was the best decision I could have made. I took my time to research a good manufacture, and actually came across a manufacture that designs for Disney. (COOL RIGHT)
So I came up with some sketches, so my vision and ideas would be clear for the manufacturer. After sending my sketches over, they immediately got my vision and what I was going for, and I was extremely happy..
My new baby “Carey Beauty By Naki” was born. I had faith that this collection would do great, and it did. It. So many people loved them, from influencers, celebs, and supporters.
I was so happy with all the great response and reviews with my hoop earrings. They loved everything from my packaging, the materials it’s made of, to how extremely light weight they are.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I’m Naki I’m a lifestyle content creator, and I own a fashion accessories brand name “Carey Beauty By Naki”.
My collection consists of very stylish fashionable hoop earrings. This collection was designed to empower the everyday day women/person. I wanted this collection to make you look and feel your best, boost your confidence, while all doing it in fashion and style.
I made sure when I was designing this collection, that my hoop earrings was extremely light weight on the ears, non-hypoallergenic, and nickel free. Having these things was really important to me and customers. (Oh yeah I did my research).
What makes me stand out from other accessory brands is, my hoops are light weight, and they have inspiring, and empowering words made on the inside of each hoop, which is “IAmroyalty” and “Beautifully Made”.
I feel really good and proud when I see customers leave good reviews, sending my pictures, and videos, and overall feel good about there purchase, and earrings. The words alone makes them feel good, and want to keep wearing them.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Well I already had a loyal community and following who enjoyed my page/content. So as my following, and lifestyle grew that attracted new followers.
The advice I would give if you’re just starting your social media journey. Is to number one take the steps to just start. A lot of people always talking about having a niche, yes that’s true and good but don’t feel like you have to only post or talk about one thing.
You definitely can if want, but I would I would say post content that makes since, have quality, and something you love and feels good to you.
If you’re promoting a business, always be fun, and creative. You want to grab, and attract more attention to your page and you. You want people to want to follow, and keep coming back wanting more.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I would say I use to feel like I had to fit in with what other brands was doing. I always had a over the top, Avant-garde, mind think of when Lady Gaga first came out.
I felt like those designs wouldn’t sell or nobody would like them. Toning my designs down wasn’t a option for me, so I had to keep going. I decided to continue to execute my vision, and had to remember that there is a market out there for my designs and work.
Fast forward in 2022 there’s so many over the tops minds, and designs. Let’s just say I’m glad I stuck to my vision and what I wanted to bring to life. It definitely help me stand out still to this day.
