We recently connected with Nakesha Maddox and have shared our conversation below.

Nakesha, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?

My mission is help women lay down their faulty thinking habits to take hold of their God given identity. By removing their “stinking” thinking and stepping into an abundance mindset; see themselves the way God see’s them. Owning their identity and power. The story behind my mission is due to really finding who I was in God. For so many years I operated in mediocrity and not only that but I only knew how to do what I was taught; reliving those unhealthy cycles of learned behaviors. It was only getting me as far as anyone else in my family, I knew I had to do something different so I got curious because as much as I ran from God, dancing with the devil, God kept me wrapped in his arms. So I wanted to know “man what’s so special about me that he keeps me wrapped in his arms” Lord knows I’ve faced so many self inflicted, painful obstacles and trials. Once I started doing the REAL work. Peeling back layer after layer of the identity of society, what people called me and who they thought I should be, I began to really see me. It’s really an indescribable feeling. And EVERY woman that has been anywhere where I’ve been or can relate to me, they deserve to know who God created them to be. I still haven’t seen ALL of me, I know the best is yet to come. And I want to take every woman with me that’s willing to do the work. Because it takes just that, WORK!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I’m Nakesha Maddox, 32 years young. Mother to an amazing young lady. She’s coming into her teenage years so shoot up a prayer for me. Lol! Daughter of God, “not your average Christian”. Born and raised in Houston, Tx. Motivational Speaker. Mindset Transformation Coach. Podcast Host of “Her Chronicles” Founder and CEO of Reinventing HER. I’ve went from being a lash artist catering to woman in the beauty industry to a Transformation Coach through Reinventing HER. I witnessed so many women speak of the weariness of working 9-5. Not only that but the potential so many women have but don’t have the tools or resources to unlock their creativity and power. So many women have conformed to society and the way of the world that they don’t even realize they’re not even living in their true identity. There’s so much more to you than what they see beyond your current existence, and you HAVE TO know that it’s within your core. I feel like you’re doing a disservice to yourself and others by not showing up as your true self. It’s really heart breaking to see someone walk in the shadow of others instead who they are, and to not know who they are in God, it’s relentless. So I created The “POWER OF YOU” program to help women of faith like you really do the work in unlocking your true identity in God. Lay down your faulty thinking habits to take hold of an abundance mindset. And have EVERY area of your life transformed because when you’re transformed in your mind due to the mind being the engine to you, everything else will flow. But with a broken engine there’s no flow. It’s dead. The program will unlock and transform so much of you and you’ll be redeemed and ALIVE again.

I believe what sets me apart from most is because I truly want every woman of faith to be successful in EVERY area of their life not just in business or one particular area. You deserve that because God didn’t create you to just work for someone else and make their dreams come true, pay bills and die. You’re royalty! You’re powerful and capable of ANYTHING! Because it’s say “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” you have the spirit of God living within you. So helping them unlock that is my only mission and I WILL do whatever it takes. Not only that but helping them unlock who they are in God, not what their family wants them to be, who society says they should be or “in my opinion who I think they should be” but who GOD CREATED THEM TO BE! Everyone has their own blueprint and I’ll be doing the work with them to activate it. Your blueprint is a weapon and once you activate it, you’re not a force to be reckoned with.

I’m most proud of the impact I’ve had in such a short period of time on the podcast with helping women use their voice to share their story. Situations and things that once held them captive, they’re now free from. Her Chronicles Podcast, is a raw and uncut series featuring women sharing their stories. The women have faced some of the most difficult challenges of life’s journey yet overcame. From childhood trauma, molestation, suicide attempts, depressions, domestic violence, homosexuality, infidelity, grief, drugs and alcohol to VICTORY, The podcast sheds light on the challenges every women has faced but overcame. The purpose is for someone to hear another woman’s survival story and break FREE from their own chains.

As you can see I’m all for women empowerment for God to get the glory because at the end of the day we are nothing without him.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

Building my social media presence was a struggle because things change daily so what used to work doesn’t work anymore. It’s kind of like using old cars to unlock a new door, it just doesn’t work. I built my platform by being myself. I would highly suggest building a community. Showing up as the expert and being transparent. When you build a community, it gives the audience a sense of knowing that they belong and they’re not just a consumer/customer/client. Making them feel like they’re a part of the journey, asking for their input, doing polls and things of that nature. Showing yourself behind the scene so they can get to know you and just truly being yourself, not what you think they want you to see. Because people can sense it. Don’t worry about numbers/followers, because if that’s all you’re worried about then that’s what you’ll get, a bunch of FOLLOWERS that just FOLLOW and don’t interact. You can have a slew of followers and no support, because there’s no impact or transparency.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?

A lesson I had to unlearn is expecting instant gratification. As soon as I started my entrepreneurship journey, I started in the beauty industry and I expected it to POP as soon as I jumped on social media. I came out of my training class and I thought all I had to do was jump on Instagram and Facebook, make a post about me accepting new clients and they would come. (Blank Stare) Chile it was crickets. I was new to the game I really didn’t know how marketing worked so as time passed I began to understand that it just doesn’t work that way. But I didn’t show myself any grace either, I beat myself up due to expectations. I was also watching everyone else and how they did it or how much they made it look easy. Of course I soon realized everyone started from the beginning with 0 clients and they had to put in work. I truly believe that’s one of the biggest lessons I had to learn along my journey. So just know if you’re a beginner, myself and others started where you were. Don’t beat yourself up about it, it takes one day at a time. Remember you didn’t have their start so you can’t watch everyone else, stay in your lane and DON’T ever compare yourself to anyone. Comparison is the thief of joy.
