We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nakeisha Anderson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nakeisha below.
Nakeisha, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
While I have always enjoyed playing video games and love watching older (mainly black and white) movies, it never crossed my mind that I could actually bring my creative thoughts to action. Years ago, I began writing all the stories in my head down on paper and when I met my boyfriend some years after that, one day we were talking about certain things we liked and disliked about the games we played and he came up with the idea of us making a game. I had no idea about how to make a game or any of the programs to use; however, once we started looking up everything we needed and began using the programs, I knew right then this is what I wanted to do. I have tried so many business opportunities in the past because I have always wanted to have my own business; however, my heart was not in those things that I was trying as I didn’t enjoy any of it like I thought I would. Game development has been and will continue to be an amazing journey and passion for me because I wake up every morning being excited about what I’m doing. I never considered myself a creative person when I was younger; however, when I got older, the writer in me just started revealing itself because (even to this day) I have so many other ideas for video games and animation shorts (and film) that I have yet to put it all on paper to start bringing the ideas to life. It was a huge milestone for me when I released my first published game (Match Time – on the Google Play store app) because it was a reminder that, even though it may sound cliche, I have always believed that when you set your mind on doing something, truly believe in yourself, work smart, and not give up, you will see fruition. Having a creative mind is one thing, but to have that passion to actually pursue it means a lot to me.

Nakeisha, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an Indie Game Developer currently working on mobile games and also in the process of creating animation shorts as well. I began my game development journey 4 years ago, which also led me to exploring other programs to learn modeling and creating logos. My inspiration to start Love Studios was due to having so many creative ideas that I want to bring to life and share with others in hopes that they will enjoy my work. Some people may already know that creating games (especially if you are a team of 1), is a lot of work and self discipline and while I take pride in having self discipline, deciding to pursue this journey was a huge step of faith. I thank God for the opportunity to be able to work on my creativity and I will also admit there were times that I doubted myself; however, I am proud of myself for not giving up.
I not only want people to enjoy the games I make and future animation shorts, I also want them to give me honest feedback because my goal is to continue to create games that people will enjoy. I believe what sets me apart from others is that when I set my mind to do something (whether it’s work, business, and/or personal related), I have a mindset where I am going to do all that it takes to achieve that goal.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
When I finished creating my first game, everything was going great as far as getting it ready to release, but I stumbled upon a technical issue and had to put that to the side and while at first it was upsetting, I did not let that deter me from continuing on, so I began working on my second game (in a different game engine). After completing and doing a full production release of Match Time, that was an amazing feeling and to see people’s reaction while playing the game was even more memorable.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can provide some insight – you never know who might benefit from the enlightenment.
Through the years, I have learned that everyone does not have the desire to be an entrepreneur and I say that because I believe it’s the same thing when it comes to a creative journey, so my thought process has been to treat this creative journey like I would if I was working for someone or a company. My background is in banking and leadership, so when there was a position in the company that I wanted in order to advance, I took certain steps to get the position and I continue to use that mindset while on this journey, which is giving my all to achieve my goals because this is my brand. Some may wonder why did I continue or start creating another game if the first one didn’t work out as far as releasing it and my answer is because if I was working for someone else, I am going to make sure I complete what is required and/or asked of me, so I took that mindset and applied it to my goal, which is why I did not give up on creating games and was able to publish Match Time.
