We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Najah Berry. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Najah below.
Najah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Growth is exciting, but from what we’ve seen across thousands of conversations with entrepreneurs it’s also dangerous if costs aren’t watched closely – sometimes costs can grow out of control outpacing revenue growth and putting the viability of the entire business at risk. How have you managed to keep costs under control?
With the beauty industry on the rise and inflation in this market, I try keeping our prices at a reasonable rate by using more than one source to produce our products. I say this because it’s always good to have back up options with having vendors or manufacturers, sometimes they can offer you the same product but at a lower cost, and we always make sure it’s the same quality so our customers still get that same great product. If we can’t offer lower cost we always make sure to offer some incentives, like free shipping or using our PR teams discount codes to save.

Najah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My Names Najah Berry I’m from Milwaukee,Wi and I started Girl Code Cosmetics in 2020 When I moved from Phoenix AZ To Las Vegas. I wanted my brand to be one that builds beauty and confidence, but also makes you feel like you’re shopping with a close friend or your homegirl ,so you feel there’s no right or wrong way to do makeup. I started off just selling lashes because if it’s one thing I try not to leave the house without is my lashes, from lashes I just started adding what I feel like would be essential to a woman’s everyday look but at a modest price. I want to offer luxury products without breaking the bank. One thing for sure is Our brand is a girls , girls brand which makes us stand out , I offer a diversity of products, we have an entire PR team of different diversity’s so you get to see how the product is used on our girls of different skin tones , we’ve even gotten into content to show our customers how to do their makeup , so it makes it beginner friendly.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?
When first started Girl Code Cosmetics, I saved about 400$ and that was my first initial investment. That Was 3 Years ago and we are still expanding and growing today , with the help of my mom and a few friends who’ve invested to help stock inventory, I’ve come pretty far from where I started , it’s not exactly where I would like it to be , but no business grows over night everything takes time so I know for sure within the next year I’ll see my my sales spiked and our business name everywhere.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Right not the best resource of clients we have is , Our Team of MUA’s who post almost everyday with new content with the products, our email list we’ve built since 2020 and Social media ads. All of these combined we’ve built a really loyal fan base , and also have brung new people to our page , all though they may have not shopped yet I know with the new products coming to launch we’ll have something for everyone to buy.
