We were lucky to catch up with Naimah Elmore recently and have shared our conversation below.
Naimah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Folks often look at a successful business and imagine it was an overnight success, but from what we’ve seen this is often far from the truth. We’d love to hear your scaling up story – walk us through how you grew over time – what were some of the big things you had to do to grow and what was that scaling up journey like?
I join this community called “Urban Impact Birmingham” to help scale Alicia’s Coffee LLC. We were already an established business but we did not won’t to be a business in a hamster wheel. Urban Impact taught me to understand where our money goes and where we are making profit. Before we opened in Vincent Alabama we heard a lot of No’s. Entrepreneurship is not easy and takes a lot of prayer, hard work and dedication but most of you have to sacrifice a lot on your journey. Every business is different so plans are different but most have the same goal in mind and that is to win and succeed. We are community.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I am Naimah Alicia Elmore, I’m from Birmingham, Alabama and I grew up in the Wylam area. I have always had a heart and passion for music. I am a serial entrepreneur and has always believed in ownership. I started working in 1996 as a camp counselor that was the start of my work ethic. It takes work ethic and determination to succeed. I learn to market and whom to market to.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I always thought I would be in the music industry but Covid-19 and some other issues made us pivot. Starting Alicia’s Coffee LLC. is the best decision I have ever made. I have grown as a person and business woman. We gave coffee away free for a whole year because I was told to(by God).
