We were lucky to catch up with Naima Beasley recently and have shared our conversation below.
Naima, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
When I graduated high school I Had a full ride scholarship and an internship that also offered me money towards school. Before I went to school that year I enlisted in the army and was in training for a year. I came back during COVID times and went to school. I would take the bus to central campus and walk 20 min to my friends house to do hair in my friends basement. I had no problem with school but I became overwhelmed with my passion for hair. I dropped out and I’ve been booked ever since. I have even been flown out to a different state to do an NBA players hair and I’m thriving off of my business. The best part is that this is only the beginning of my success I have so many things planned and I’m grateful that I took a risk and allowed God to Guide me!
Naima, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started braiding my own hair in maybe the 7th grade I would have a different style every week. My close friends and cousins started asking me to do their hair and I would for free. when I dropped out of school and started taking it serious My only goal was to perfect my craft. I believe in purpose and I believe that God has called me to walk into my purpose and with that being said the service that I provide I do so with excellence. I am always complimented on not only my work but my professionalism. I am proud of who I am/becoming and I would like for my potential clients to know that my Brand isn’t just my logo and my services it is who I am and reflects my character.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media can be overwhelming when it comes to your business it is a whole other job. I started with building my audience on tik tok. I bought courses from people and at a point I was posting 4 times a day 7 days a week. I gained so many followers and now I have 66.6k all from being consistent. To anyone just starting I would say to study other peoples page that you share the same niche with and stay consistent. Also be intentional when it comes to content because it showcase your brand and who you are.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Majority of my clients comes from word of mouth. when someone has a good experience with me they share it with their friends and family. There have also been times when random people would come up to my clients and admire my work and would want my information to book.
