We were lucky to catch up with Naika Winy Jean Louis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Naika Winy, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
My journey as a digital creator began in 2020, building on years of writing about hair and skincare. Initially, I was encouraged by friends and family to start a YouTube channel, but soon realized that Instagram felt like a more natural fit for my voice and creative expression. What started as a personal space to share my hair routines, skincare insights, and product experiences quickly grew into something more meaningful.
As I shared my honest experiences from hair struggles to product successes , people resonated with my transparency and realness. It was both exciting and a bit nerve-wracking to open up online, but the positive response from my audience reassured me that I was on the right path. My purpose became clear: to offer content that was not only helpful and genuine but also relatable to others on similar journeys.
The encouragement from my followers continually fuels my passion, reminding me that consistency and authenticity are key to creating something impactful. I am driven to keep evolving and sharing content that reflects who I am, with the hope that it can bring value, inspire confidence, and make a difference in my community.

Naika Winy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a New York- based digital content creator with a deep passion for beauty, specifically focusing on haircare and skincare. My journey began with writing blogs on these topics , taking care of my family’s hair, sharing my personal routines, insights, and product experiences. Over time, I noticed the real need for authentic, relatable content that addresses common beauty challenges, particularly in haircare for Black women. It’s always been hard to find quality products that work for Black hair, so I wanted to create a space where Black women could find honest recommendations that actually work for them.
Four years ago , I launched my Instagram page to go beyond beauty tips, creating a resource where people could see real, unfiltered experiences with products. Initially, it was a space for me to share my own hair routines, skincare insights, and product trials. But as I opened up about my hair struggles and beauty journey, more people began resonating with my transparency. It was both exciting and a little nerve-wracking to put myself out there, but the positive response confirmed that I was on the right path.
One of the things that sets me apart is my commitment to transparency. Beauty should feel approachable, and I strive to make it accessible by simplifying complex routines and sharing practical tips. I’m always honest about the products I use, whether they work or don’t, and my followers know they can trust my recommendations. For me, beauty shouldn’t feel like an exclusive club, but rather an inclusive journey that anyone can join.
The encouragement from my followers is what I’m most proud of. Knowing that my content has helped others, whether it’s finding the right product, learning a new technique, or simply feeling more confident, has been incredibly rewarding. My job is more than just content creation; it’s about building a community based on trust and shared experiences.
I want potential followers and clients to know that my work is deeply personal and grounded in authenticity. I’m committed to creating content that’s not only informative and helpful but also reflects who I am. Staying true to myself and my audience is what keeps what I do unique, and I’m excited to continue growing this journey with my community.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a content creator is the chance to make a genuine impact in people’s lives through something I’m passionate about. When I started, I was focused on sharing my personal journey with hair and skincare, but as my platform grew, I realized how much this content resonated with others, especially those who felt overlooked in mainstream beauty spaces.
One of the greatest joys is when followers reach out to show me their results, whether it’s how their hair is thriving, their skin is improving, or even how a product I recommended has made a difference. Hearing these stories and seeing their transformations is truly rewarding. It shows me that I’m doing more than just sharing tips; I’m helping others feel more confident and informed about their beauty choices. The connection and community that’s grown from this work, where we can learn from each other and celebrate our unique beauty, is what keeps me inspired to keep creating.
On top of the personal satisfaction, I’m grateful that I can also make extra income from it. As a side hustle, it’s rewarding to know that I can pursue my passion, build a supportive community, and enjoy some financial benefits along the way. This balance keeps me inspired to keep creating and sharing.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me has been my social media presence and the engagement from my followers. As a content creator focusing on haircare and skincare, I consistently share honest reviews, product demos, and tips that resonate with my audience. This engagement not only builds trust with my followers but also catches the attention of brands who are looking to connect with a genuine and engaged community.
Many brands reach out for paid and gifted collaborations after seeing how my audience responds to my content and recommendations. They appreciate that my followers are genuinely interested in my insights and value my transparency. Additionally, positive word-of-mouth from previous collaborations often leads to referrals and new partnership opportunities. This combination of social media engagement, community trust, and brand referrals has been the most effective way for me to attract new clients.
