We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nagasri Thota a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nagasri, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
My artistic endeavor is to express the unspoken emotions that are often difficult to express in words. There are certain emotions and feelings that we experience, but find it challenging to communicate with others. I am aware that there are people who struggle with sharing their emotions, and my art is an attempt to give them a voice and express these feelings. Emotions can be complex and challenging to articulate, and sometimes they can be perceived differently by others when communicated.
communicating emotions plays a crucial role in mental and physical health, emotions always influence our thoughts, and social interactions, and expressing emotions help us to process difficult experiences and gives us the courage to overcome traumas. Holding up emotions doesn’t do anything well, It will so much damage to our overall wellbeing. Although some emotions can be challenging to express, it’s essential to find healthy ways to communicate them
Nagasri , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, my name is Nagasri Thota, and I am currently a student of Pharmaceutical Sciences. While I have chosen science as my career path, I also have a passion for art. Among my many interests, I find that creating art helps me to clear my mind and relieve stress. I am particularly drawn to creating pieces that relate to mental health and emotions, as I believe it is challenging to express these concepts through art. I strive to tell a story with my art and use it as a form of meditation. Describing my art can be tricky because it is deeply personal to me, and everyone has their own interpretation of it. When conceptualizing a new piece, I always try to put myself in the picture and draw from my own experiences.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
To be honest, I started art as a hobby without any specific goal in mind. However, I eventually became interested in creating conceptual art that could tell stories about various emotions, especially ones related to pain, suffering, and life. I wanted to use my art to create a space where these emotions could be acknowledged and explored in a safe and supportive way. Expressing oneself is never easy, and I realized that words can sometimes fail to convey true feelings, leading to misunderstandings. So, I came up with the idea of using art to share my emotions and pain. I believe that art is like the inner soul of one’s emotions and can express them more accurately than words in a very unique and powerful way.
In the end, my ultimate goal as an artist is to create art that helps people acknowledge and work through their emotions, and I believe that art has the power to heal, to inspire, and to connect us in ways that nothing else can.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
As an artist, there is nothing more fulfilling than creating something that resonates with people and has a positive impact on their lives. It takes a lot of effort and dedication to produce a piece of art from scratch, and when you finally see it come to life, it’s an indescribable feeling of accomplishment.
But the most rewarding aspect of being an artist is the ability to connect with people on a deeper level through your art. Art has the power to touch people’s hearts and souls in a way that words cannot. It can communicate emotions and ideas that are difficult to express through language alone. When someone views my art and feels a sense of understanding or a connection to what I have created, it’s a truly humbling experience.
Knowing that my art has helped someone through a difficult time inspires me to keep creating and sharing my work with the world, in the hopes of making a positive impact on even more people. The ability to touch people’s lives through my art is the most rewarding aspect of being an artist, and it’s what drives me to continue pursuing my passion.
