We recently connected with Na’eem Walton and have shared our conversation below.
Na’eem, appreciate you joining us today. The first dollar you earn is always exciting – it’s like the start of a new chapter and so we’d love to hear about the first time you sold or generated revenue from your creative work?
My very first dollar earned as a creative/artist was from a streetwear brand name Yakuza Premium based out of Berlin, Germany. The company produces all their content for spring/summer campaigns in Los Angeles. At that particular time I had no personal social media accounts, but a business page my partner operated for our start up fitness application. I had no previous on camera experience outside of the modeling and professional photos shoots as the face of my own company. One day he tells me this company DM’d our account and wanted to hire me as talent for a streetwear shoot. The very next day I had my first freelance modeling gig. It was suppose to be a 3-4 hour photoshoot, but the producers were running late for an international flight and i got paid $600 for 30 minutes. I never looked back after that.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is simply having a vision that starts as an idea come to fruition- it’s often difficult to explain in words. But, there’s the strenuous process of pre production- creating visual mood boards, to scouting locations, collaborating with other creative personalities who can help bring your vision to light, and developing a proper content layout. There’s a lot of work, time, and effort that goes into creating a quality project. But once it’s completed, there’s nothing like having something intangible and making it tangible for the world to see and appreciate.
How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience by being authentic, multiple TV appearances, and always releasing quality content. I know the algorithms incentive and encourage creatives to constantly post today, but that’s a trend I like to avoid. As a Christian I always say,” It took God 7 days to create the Heavens in the Earth, what makes you think you will be able to create quality everyday?” Perfection takes time, but also stands the test of time. I’d rather put out quality work that resonates with my audience than release something that holds no true value.
