We recently connected with Nadya Ramos and have shared our conversation below.
Nadya, appreciate you joining us today. One of our favorite things to brainstorm about with friends who’ve built something entrepreneurial is what they would do differently if they were to start over today. Surely, there are things you’ve learned that would allow you to do it over faster, more efficiently. We’d love to hear how you would go about setting things up if you were starting over today, knowing everything that you already know.
If I were starting over from day 1, I would obsess over sales and marketing more than anything else. Once you crack the sales and marketing code and create systems so the two work in hand, growing your business becomes easier.

Nadya, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
In summer of 2020, amid the pandemic’s chaos, I was fired from my role as marketing director at a product manufacturing company, despite spearheading transformative initiatives that fueled significant growth for the business.
From this experience I learned that the key to success isn’t about how much you know about your craft or how hard you work. The key to success lies in discovering the value you bring to the table and creating opportunities to serve others whose values align with your own. Once you discover which problem you solve and who you solve it for, then only go into business with people you can see yourself working with for the rest of your life. I believe it’s possible to make good money, doing good work for good people. This conviction propelled me to establish MRK (pronounced “mar-kah”) Marketing Consulting, to support independent business owners and organizations who are rockstars at what they do but struggle to convey that message and showcase the impact of their work online.
With me as their marketing ally, they gain access to an experienced marketing professional to strategize and create custom plans and campaigns as well as a suite of services and support to implement efforts across social media, email marketing, websites, and more.
This, in turn, frees up their time and focus so they can concentrate on the areas of their business they know best and enjoy most–leading to increased output and faster growth rates.
Since the launch of MRK, I’ve partnered with over 40 small businesses and entrepreneurs elevating their online presence and positioning their brands as trusted service providers and thought leaders in their market.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
People do business with people. My first clients were some of my friends and past colleagues. Those people helped me spread the word about my services and expand my network.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media by focusing less on vanity metrics and more on building relationships. I take the time to thank people for following my page and engaging with my content. I view comments and DMs as opportunities to spark conversation to get to know people better so I can serve them better. One of the things that makes social media much more effective than other marketing channels is that you have direct access to your audience. Unlike TV and radio, with social media you have two-way communication. Those that understand that concept and take full advantage of that have better chances of converting their followers into loyal brand ambassadors even with a small audience.
