We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nadya Lambreva. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nadya below.
Nadya , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
Art and meaning are very much connected and important to each other. We make sense of our human experience through art and our experience is all about the search for meaning. Therefore, engaging my art practice with meaningful causes has been very important because it brings purpose and soul to it. A recent moment when I felt like my art carried a bigger meaning and message to the world, was during an event created to raise funds for kids in less privileged areas who need life-saving surgical care and support. During the live painting, I created a portrait that was used to raise money and support those noble missions. ‘’Mending kids’’ is the name of the organization which provides free life-saving surgical care to sick children worldwide by developing volunteer medical teams. It was truly an honor to contribute to what they are doing and use my craft in the effort to save young lives. Art is a beautiful human expression that can feed the soul, but when it’s used with intention to spread a message, draw attention to important social issues and used for good, then its beauty is elevated to a whole different level.
Nadya , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My creative journey started early as my father is a painter and he showed me the beauty of the craft. Currently I create paintings on a bigger and smaller scale, and I customize wearables like shoes, clothing, hats, etc. By doing that I want to encourage people to be their authentic selves and express their uniqueness though what they wear. The pieces I make are one of a kind and what is different about them is also the idea of conscious clothing behind what I do. There is a lot of textile waste in the world and the impact that has on the environment is very serious, so I am focusing on sustainable fashion and upcycling pieces by giving them a fresh look and new life. Also, my spirituality is very much connected with my craft since I charge energetically every piece, so it brings prosperity and good frequencies to the owner. I’ve also done multiple live paintings for nonprofit organizations in order to raise money for charity. As well as other events, including meditations and events that include other healing modalities. I try to implement the philosophy of positive impact in my craft and would like to inspire more people to contribute to the collective and use their gifts. I believe we are all artists. We all have gifts and when we use them to create a better environment for the generations to come, we automatically bring more meaning to our everyday lives.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I just never stopped painting and pursuing a creative living. I believe that my whole life is a story of resilience from the very beginning. Even though I was introduced to art so early in life, I was also told that you can’t make a living with it and thrive as a creative. That was like showing a kid the most beautiful playground and saying it can’t go play there because it’s not productive. A kid’s mind doesn’t understand that and thank God! But sometimes the world is not so friendly to the creators and makers. But I refused to believe in that narrative and decided I’m gonna beat the odds. It’s especially challenging when you are an expat, so you are already different and when you’re an artist on top of that, things get really interesting. But without a good challenge, we can’t grow. So, at the end it’s all about the mindset when it comes to resilience, no matter what the world tells you, if you have a gut feeling they are wrong, follow that. It knows the way.
