We were lucky to catch up with Nadia Ramon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nadia , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Dezynr begun as an idea. I knew I loved designing so I wanted a name similar but unique. I did a google search of the word “design” in all languages and found dezyn, which is Turkish. Even though I’ve never been to Turkey, I loved the way it looked. Since my initials are NR, I added the letter “R” and that’s how DEZYNR was born.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Nadia Ramon and I am a latina artist based in San Antonio, Texas. I am the owner of Dezynr which is my brand for polymer clay creations. Dezynr was created as a desperate measure to keep me sane during quarantine. I ordered a box of clay from Amazon and got to work. I drew inspiration from my previous travels such as Mexico and various countries in Asia. I loved the variation of bright colors and enjoyed looking through old pictures to turn them into ear art. Fast forward almost 2 years later, Dezynr sells jewelry in over 7 stores nationwide.
What sets me apart? My original and unique designs.
I am proud of being able to create genuine friendships with people I have met on social media and bringing them together to create a supportive community.
I want my followers and potential customers to see that I truly love what I do and create. I have an honest passion for helping others with my shared tips on social media.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
Asking for help is okay. Growing up I always believed that asking for help was a sign of weakness and therefore struggled through my adulthood especially during my college days. I wish I had felt comfortable enough to accept help. Building my business from square one has taught me that it is impossible to do it all. I have since learned that my strengths and weaknesses vary and that it’s healthy to distribute tasks when possible. Unlearning this continues to help me physically but mostly mentally.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I think that quality of my products has helped build my reputation within my market. I am great and posting behind the scenes content to let my customers know how I create the way that I do. My customers also get styling tips, I answer each question asked, provide information on materials I use, etc. I also make myself available for my customers so they know that I am consistent, I communicate, and I execute what I promise.
