We were lucky to catch up with Nadia Mozaffari recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nadia , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you get your first job in the field that you practice in today?
I graduated beauty school in 2012 and had the opportunity to get my foot immediately in the door at an established salon where both my uncle and my cousin worked doing hair! I was surrounded by amazing industry professionals and an incredible boss. I started out working the front desk while I slowly built a clientele, and eventually made my way back into the treatment room full time. Two different treatment rooms, and eight years later, I had learned so much at my time working at Carolyne’s Salon. It wasn’t always easy but I consider myself very blessed to have gotten to work there right out of school with not only actual family, but friends who I now consider family. All of this lead to where I am today where I now own my business in my solo suite.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
For as long as I can remember now I was always into beauty and makeup so naturally I wanted to go to beauty school to become an esthetician. In school, I fell in love with skin and giving facials. I’m someone who wholeheartedly believes in the healing power of touch. My journey has lead me to where I am today, owner and operator of Healing Hands Esthetics. I am a holistic non invasive esthetician who uses natural and botanical skincare lines meant for barrier repair and healthy aging. I also offer waxing & expert brow services. My brand’s motto is “It’s not just skincare, it’s soulcare”. Clients can expect to enter a welcoming and serene environment when they enter my treatment room, where they will receive relaxing services that melt their stresses away and result in glowing and healthy skin.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
Keeping up on current training and knowledge is important, but what will draw your most ideal and important clients to you is yourself. I’ve learned that I am not the esthetician for everybody, but I AM the type of esthetician for somebody. I think I set myself apart due to the connections I am able to make with my clients. I definitely think to be able to succeed in this field you have to be able to connect to people and create a safe and welcoming environment where your clients feel important and don’t just feel like a number to you.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I think we can all agree we had to pivot somewhat in 2020 during the pandemic. The salon I worked at temporarily closed and I had to figure out ways to stay relevant and generate income. One of the ways was offering at home facial kits that clients would either pick up or I would drop off to them. 2020 is also when I decided to proactively open Healing Hands Esthetics LLC. Fast forward to 2021, and while was content, and comfortable at Carolynes salon for over eight years, there was forced closure and I had to pivot my career to where it is today. In a few short months I found the suite and location for the future of my business and have been operating solo ever since. These are just a few of many ways I’ve had to pivot my career over the last 12 years I’ve been an esthetician. Owning a small business isn’t always easy, but it is worth it!
