We recently connected with Nadia McKoy and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Nadia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory of how you established your own practice.
I am proud to say that since our last feature, I have grown incredibly, personally and business wise! To get straight to it, I now have my own Holistic Practice, a store front in Gavi Mall. Though I have had to start over in my personal life, one thing that I promised myself is that I would stay consistent with Qveeng Bee’s Luxury Care. She’s my baby, she has blessed others, myself as well, and even though I’m not always sure where the path may lead, I know at least pushing forward is always the right move. I’ve been a practitioner since 2017. People have always spoke about me getting a store front, Lol. I was just like, “girl, no”. At the time, I didn’t believe in having a lot of overhead, I still don’t, lol! But last summer, again I had to start over. In order for me to perform my services such as facials and yoni steams, I would have to do house calls. The house calls can make both parties involved a little uneasy, if we didn’t formally know each other. I was understanding of course, but I missed a lot of opportunities. So I prayed. I prayed for a space I could work out of and something chewable for the season of life I was in. Almost a year later, I was able to get into a barbershop. It wasn’t exactly my style, it was a little loud for the services I provide, and it was way out of my budget, but I just told God I was going to trust Him, and was thankful that I finally got a space. Since last summer, a business associate and I worked on getting me a space in the mall, but nothing was ever available. One day, she needed to upgrade, so she called me and told me to come grab the contract for her former space and call the owner. This was three days after I just moved into the shop I was in. I was so happy! I called the owner, I didn’t exactly have the money I needed because I just paid to be in the spot at the barber shop, but I gave the new owner what I had, and luckily the rest popped up right afterwards! Not only was the new space more of my budget, but it was also more spacious as well!
In this new space, we were given the liberty to customize our store in anyway that we’d like. This involved me needing to patch walls, seal, sand, paint, and more. I didn’t have everything at the time, but I made it work faith and trust. One of my mentors just so happened to call me to check in while I was working on what I could with painting. I told her I finally got the spot that I’ve been wanting since last summer; working to fix it up. She ended up coming to the store and didn’t think the work I was doing was going too well, Lol. Rightfully, of course. She brought all of the tools I needed and I was able to complete everything I needed.
Fast forward, I wanted to have a grand opening for my store. Beforehand, I was able to just start taking clients and used my space for content creating in between clients, but then I thought, why not have a grand opening?! I had one this past April on the 29th, and though it was a long and somewhat difficult process, I made it through. So many people showed up to support and I pretty much cried the whole day due to my worry of are people actually going to attend! Instead of having my focus on possible lack, I just worked my hardest on making sure everything would roll smoothly on the big day. That’s exactly what happened. It’s only been up from there, and I’m so happy that I am here now despite it all. I’m now in the season of just trying to shed light on my new store, having a luxury life by taking care of yourself, and doing all the small or big things that make you feel great, and just expanding in general. I want to spread the message of holistic living by all means. To teach people all the ways you can take care of your mental, emotional, and physical wellbeing that won’t make you feel as if you’re giving up too much. With that being said, thank you so much, Voyager for wanting to have me feature again!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Nadia and I am Thee Holistic Practitioner! I started down this career path due to me having skin issues for majority of my life. As I was becoming immune to the medicine, I tried to find ways to elevate the eczema. By 2017, I found that diet, emotional regulation and cutting a lot of things out, helps dermatitis. Honestly, topical care is not enough, you have to watch what you intake, and how you take care of the inside of you as well. There are so many people in my community that struggle with the same situation, and due to how bad it was, I now take the liberty of not only providing products that help resolve, but also the education to enhance your body and nervous system. There have been times in the beginning where I gave up, or even took long breaks. It took a lot of faith to keep pressing through the darkness of the unknown. It took a lot of rerouting and sacrifice, but one thing I am prideful about is not giving up and the care I provide. Once I’ve tried everything then I will leave it be, but there’s always more that you can do to improve not only yourself but your situation.
For my community, I provide mini retreats, pamper parties, cosmetic services, and all natural products for men and women. I also travel as well to provide these services!
I assist my clients with work/life balance, and taking care of their mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. Honestly, that’s where navigating life starts. With Holistic practitioning, I am responsible for helping others with all types of issues from the physical being to handling issues in their environment. My gifts, what I provide, and my drive is what sets my apart from others. I see others providing one service or the other, but not services that cover the body and handling life.
I want people to know I don’t give up. I also want others to know that I am still human too, and though it may look like I am carrying everything well, that I can struggle as well. Things that I preach are things that I have or am currently going through, so often times we are starting from the same space and will make it out together.
I am proud of my tenacity. A lot of the times, struggle isn’t seen when putting out what I do. It’s often overshadowed by the success of the event or the products, which I am indeed happy about– people would’ve never known, just because of how I carry on. I am a quality over quantity person. I will figure out how to make a gift bag change your life, Lol, because that’s just how much I love people and what I do. Luxury can be made from anything and I want to continue to give my clients that through my brand. I do this by giving the best experience possible no matter how big or small what I am putting out is.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
If I’m being honest about where I am now, not even considering judgement or fear I may face, a lot of people do not know that I am presently starting over my entire life. The personal side rather. Last year, I fell on quite a few unfortunate events. I lost so many jobs. They were temp so that’s to be expected but it effected my stability. It’s hard to get a 9-5 to be honest, and when you do, the environments are incredibly unhealthy. Through all of this I was going to school for esthetics. Because I was so overwhelmed not only from the school environment and life itself, I had a series of seizures and right afterwards, contracted covid. This caused me to not be able to work for about a month and a half, which put me severely behind. I still was on the path of trying to get my esthetics license. I went back to school, but was still having a hard time finding a job. It was hard because I lost my apartment shortly after, and had to live with friends and family. While going to school, there was difficulties in the environment, and one thing I hold on to, and still learning to hold on to despite what’s at risk, is my boundaries. Not all authority agrees with it, so with that, three weeks before I was supposed to graduate, I got kicked out of school while trying to find a solution on how we could better proceed. It hurt me because I lost everything just so I could finish. I kept pressing with my business because it was the only thing I had left. Of course, I wanted to give up, but I didn’t see that for myself. I am still rebuilding, but I now have a job care taking and am on my way to more expansion. Next, is reclaiming my own space back! I don’t have everything I want, nor am I where I thought I would be by now, but I am still pretty blessed and am happy to be where I am now. Since losing everything, I met my goal of getting my business on the news! I’ve been on there 4 times this year since making the goal last year, and I don’t see not being on tv stopping anytime soon. I’ve featured in three magazines so far. I’ve grown my clientele, opened a physical business, have had retreats, traveled and more! My business stayed together through it all and I couldn’t be more thankful for that. Shout out to tenacity, for sure!

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
I would definitely still choose Holistic Practitioning! In high school I wanted to be a nurse. The dream was shot down, so I decided not to pursue it, but life had a way of still leading me down that path, but through the more natural way.
