We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Nadia Kashouh a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nadia, thanks for joining us today. How’s you first get into your field – what was your first job in this field?
I love this question because the answer is not what’s to be expected.
I am a global women’s wellness coach. I own a local gym in Providence, RI, where I offer personal training, but I also coach overwhelmed moms and super busy female professionals virtually on how to build strong bodies and regain their confidence from home without it feeling like a third or fourth job. I have been doing this for about 12 years at the time of this interview. However, this brand and business grew out of simply saying YES to being intentional with my own fitness and wellness journey.
About 12 years ago, I felt like I was heading nowhere and heading there extremely quickly. It’s like one minute I am heading off to college, and then the next, I realize 10 years have passed, and I feel like I have been living the same year over and over and over. I had low energy and low confidence and felt like hope about what was ahead of me. Thankful for the little hope, I could hear that tiny whisper that there was more for me. That dreading Monday thru Friday, only to live for the weekends, was not how it was going to be forever. In that moment, I decided to hire a coach and really focus on getting my physical and mental health in order. Everything else at the time, seemed overwhelming but I knew I could put one foot in front of the other, literally.
Once I hired my coach, I intentionally made sure I did not throw my money away and did what was asked of me in the program. I made sacrifices, set boundaries, cut out partying, and woke up at 3 to get my morning workouts in before working my 2 jobs. Now, you do not make these changes without your circle noticing and asking a bunch of questions. One person dear to my heart was my bestfriend, she asked me to coach her.
So here I am, 6 months into my journey and decided to coach her through as well. In less than a year I helped her release 60lbs but what was even more amazing was that her mother was able to release 20lbs as a result of her choices and lifestyle change. What I was doing started to spread by word of mouth and I had clients before I could even call it an official business. I was so thankful and filled with gratitude that the pain I was in to get healthy was given a sense of purpose as I continued to help women over and over transform from the inside out. So coaching my bestfriend became my 1st job in coaching women globally and building a successful business. I would not have it any other way!
Nadia, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I chatted about how I got into my industry in my question before this.
My name is Nadia Kashouh. Give me sunshine, coconut water, and temperatures over 70 degrees, and I am a happy camper. I am a Dog Mom to Lucky and the self-proclaimed world’s best aunty to my soon-to-be 9-year-old niece, Victoria Penelope. I believe that when a woman is empowered with her wellness, a generation is transformed. I hold this belief close to my heart because I have embodied this myself during my personal journey.
I am the founder of The Kash Method, where I help overwhelmed moms and stressed-out female professionals build strong bodes from home, regain their confidence, and embrace their curves without it feeling like a third or fourth job. Oh, and spoiler alert: You can still enjoy your grandma’s pies!
I own a boutique-style fitness studio where I am able to train my clients in person. In addition, we have the Curves and Confidence Collective. This is a 6-month group coaching program where we help our clients create a simple and sustainable approach to flourish in their health, cultivate amazing community and support as well as working to expand their minds and have a positive relationship with themselves and movement. We have a saying. . .” Train the mind, the Body follows.”
I am most proud of the ability to stand firm in who I am in ALL of it. I believe that we train for life and what good our the blessings and increase if we are not in good health to enjoy them, I believe what sets The Kash Method apart is our amazing community. We women who are from opposite ends of the country but feel like we are family because we are! We have a safe space where they can be, feel seen, not judged and celebrated. We cry, laugh, pray and travel together. Honestly, this is one of the reasons we have grown because our community is so passionate in sharing their experiences with the next Queen that it could benefit.
There are SO many things that I am proud of when it comes to creating and growing The Kash Method. One thing that NEVER gets old is hearing the ripple effect of my ladies saying YES to themselves. One of the reasons why she delays committing to the program is because she is used to giving herself to everyone else and then when it comes time for her, there is nothing to give. However, investing in You is investing in your family. Once she starts the program, we love hearing how the family benefits from it as well. Vanessa, a client of ours from Chicago, has been in the program for about 6 months and between her, her two sisters and mother, they have collective released over 105lbs. That is shifting a bloodline and we love to hear it and see it over and over. In addition, having a space where women can be and talk unfiltered. In our community we bring on guest experts to share incite on everything from healthy colon, adding more color into your wardrobe, conquering fear and more.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Today’s norm is that when you think or want something, it can be yours instantly. When you google “how to loose 5lbs in 10 days.” You will get a plan, products, coaching options, etc. If you order something on Amazon, you can have it there to you within hours. People have many options and so much information that building and protecting your reputation is necessary. There are 3 C’s that have helped me tremendously.
1. Core Value: I Believe it is extremely important to identify your personal and business core values. Initially, I wanted to lead with integrity, honesty, excellence, and compassion. Operating with integrity requires you to do the right thing when no one is looking, lead with respect and take responsibility for when things are going right and when they are going wrong. Building your foundation on honesty allows others to trust you and your word. Seeking the standard of excellence helps you to pay attention to the details of your business, the systems, the experience you are providing because to achieve excellence, you have to pay attention to the details. It’s important to care for your clientele and all those who are involved to help you run your business. You know how the saying goes, “People to care how much you know, until they know how much you care.” Focusing in on your CORE values, allows you to create a standard and an expectation of what you will allow and will not allow in your business.
2. Coaching: I believe that if you are expecting your ideal clients to invest in your service and pay top dollar (whatever the price may be) than you have to walk the talk. You should be investing in yourself so that you are growing , learning and evolving to continue to provide the best experience/service possible in alignment with your core values. I also believe that as you clients see you invest in yourself, they have a deeper respect and trust to work/partner with you.
3. Consistency: From the beginning of starting my business, I have been consistent with my messaging and beliefs. I did not sway with the trends or alter my services. One day I was not a nail technician, then talking about real estate and then selling meal prep. I believe people are more willing to move forward in working with you when they can TRUST that you are knowledgeable and have been doing this faithfully. It is important to be consistent in how you show up.
These 3 Cs have helped me build my reputation within my market tremendously.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been the old-school word of mouth. When someone has a great experience, they will tell maybe 3 people, but when they have a bad experience, they are going to share it to 10x that. My focus very early on was to ensure I operated with my core values and that my client’s expectations were exceeded. When this happened, they would share me to a friend, a coworker and based on the established trust, I would gain a new client.
You can also ask for referrals from your warm market: past and current clients, friends, co workers etc.
In addition, being findable and offering something of value to my prospects in exchange for their contact information. Social media can be very overwhelming, so what has helped me was really understanding my ideal client and what platforms would she be on. I would focus on that 2-3 and be sure my messaging was consistent across the platforms.
