Today, we’d like to introduce you to Nadia Geagea Pupa. Nadia was introduced to us by the brilliant and talented CaTyra Polland.
Nadia, can you walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My story begins when I was a kid. I was shy, nerdy, and always had my nose stuck in a book. Today, not much has changed. I’m still a nerd who loves books, but I’m not as shy as I used to be. I am the co-founder and CEO of Pique Publishing, Inc. and the host of a new podcast, The Editor’s Half Hour, which was founded in San Diego.
I’ve lived in Chicago and Boston, but it wasn’t until moving to San Diego that I really connected with other editors. Still feeling extremely shy, I joined the San Diego Professional Editor’s Network (SD/PEN) in 2018 and it quite literally changed my life. I met so many amazing editors who were not only inspiring but extremely warm and welcoming. They were all eager to share information and resources with each other and discuss the difficulties of running their own freelance businesses. The more meetings I attended, the more I got to dive deeper into discussions surrounding the craft of editing. At the networking events, I asked questions and absorbed the entrepreneurial spirit that came alive before, during, and after meetings. I eventually joined the board and served as president, but when my term ended, it inspired me to launch the podcast. where I get to stay true to my nerdy self and ask guests questions about all the intricate details of editing.
In the summer of 2023, I was named winner of the 40 Next Top Business Leaders under 40, and in November of that same year, I won Business Women of the Year for the Small Business Category by the San Diego Business Journal. I gained recognition for launching the podcast and for the efforts that went into designing the first-ever Affirmation Cards for Editors. Since then, I’ve been presenting on various editorial-related topics and networking with other
Please tell us more about your brand, Pique Publishing
After years of working in the publishing world, I realized there’s a gap in the industry between content and design. At Pique Publishing, we bridge that gap to help clients develop everything from digital training materials and other assets to printed items like magazines, books, and brochures. Unlike other editorial and design firms, our experts take the art form of design and apply it strategically and technically so that information is presented in a logical and meaningful way. What sets us apart is our ability to successfully function as an extension of established teams to ensure deadlines are met and all project details are on time. I am the most proud of launching the Editor’s Half Hour podcast and for sharing the Affirmation Cards for Editors product with my editorial community.
So, as we mentioned to our audience earlier, you were introduced to us by CaTyra Polland and Love for Words and we really admire them and what they’ve built. For folks who might not be as familiar, can you tell them a bit about your experience with Love for Words.
CaTyra has such a strong passion for giving diverse voices representation within the editorial community. She is always finding ways to elevate her colleagues in the best ways possible. When we first met, we talked about how similar our interests are. We both have podcasts and we both have been recognized in our local areas for the efforts we are putting into the publishing industry. I was so impressed to learn that she is the founder of National Black Authors Day. What a great achievement! I was thrilled to have her share her message about this national holiday on my podcast. She also puts efforts into ways that women in particular can create a legacy for themselves in this world. By creating initiatives and scholarships for students in her community, she is giving back and leaving such a positive mark in this world.
It was only a matter of time before we worked together on something. So when CaTyra reached out to me to partner with her on the 2025 Inaugural Editors Calendar, I didn’t hesitate to say yes! I was thrilled to work side-by-side with her on this. She described it as a celebration of the unsung heroes who turn words into magic, and it didn’t take much for me to jump onboard with this message. Together, we are excited to try something that hasn’t been done before and we have no doubt that this calendar is just one way to support and uplift our colleagues in the editorial community.
