Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nacho Suave. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Nacho thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you take us back in time to the first dollar you earned as a creative – how did it happen? What’s the story?
First dollar I earned as a creative was selling these demos at my high school under the pseudonym Ghetto-T. I think there was like 4-5 songs. I was selling these at $5. 2 people grabbed a copy from me. Looking back now I’m glad I didn’t sell any more than those 2 because people probably would’ve told me that it sucked. Which at the time it kind of did. It wasn’t until years later when I dropped The Ignacio EP under the new pseudonym Nacho Suave that my cousin bought a copy through my Bandcamp for funny enough. $5

Nacho, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
So when I decided at age 14 that I wanted to rap. I soon realized that 2 of my cousins also rapped but of course they were a little older and much more experienced than I was at rapping, so right away I was in good company because it wasn’t until a few years later that one of my cousins started rapping with someone they went to high school with which later became a handful of other people who were DOPE emcees. Me being terrible at rapping in the beginning was now surrounded by rappers who were leagues better than me. Rather than be intimidated, I was motivated and inspired to do better. This applies to any field but if you want to do better or be better. Start hanging out with the people who are better than you because that’s only going to make you get better in the long run. If they’re willing to share knowledge of course. Some people like to gatekeep what they know for some dumb reason. Anyways I eventually learned the art of freestyling and that became a game changer for me at 15-16 years old. At 17 I met a classmate that later became one my closest friends whom I still talk to this day and he taught me how to up the freestyle game by looking at objects around us and rapping about it. We used to freestyle in his parent’s garage and smoke weed and spit flows over a burned CD of instrumentals I picked myself. At the time the rap name was Ghetto-T and my flows were far from ghetto but still pretty terrible hahahaha. Fast forward to 2016. I joined a crew named B&E Music and since then I’ve dropped 5 projects. 3 solo, 1 instrumental, and 1 compilation of R&B remixes. I now make sampled loops through Ableton. I’ve got one song released by Orikal Uno that I did the beat for called Trenches featuring 4 twin cities legends. My crew and I got more music on the way so stay tuned for a dope 2025
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Support your local music. Doesn’t matter the genre. It matters to the local scene so much when people come to the shows and check you out. Whether they’re there listening passively or attentively. A presence is better than none. It’s how the big artists and bands did it. They started local and went global. So come out to your favorite local band’s or artist’s show and show support. If you happen to like them a lot. Tell the next person about it and have them check it out. What happens next is that the person will 2 people and then the next person will tell the next 2 people. You get the picture

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Having the person connecting to the music. Especially at a show. People will come up to you after the performance and tell you “yo I really related to that one line you said about riding the buses” or “that line about sweeping up popcorn at a movie theater with sticky sneakers.” That’s always the coolest part.
