We recently connected with Nabila Nugroho and have shared our conversation below.
Nabila, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Too often the media represents innovation as something magical that only high-flying tech billionaires and upstarts engage in – but the truth is almost every business owner has to regularly innovate in small and big ways in order for their businesses to survive and thrive. Can you share a story that highlights something innovative you’ve done over the course of your career?
On my platform, I always encourage people to support local brands. I also took a step further by collaborating with various, promising local brands to make a one-of-a-kind Maquire products. It is quite challenging to find the suitable partners for my projects but the outcome is always satisfying.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Nabila, an artist, illustrator and graphic designer from Indonesia. Graphic designer is my day job while Maquire is a passion project of mine that has been running for 4 years.
My art focuses on Maquire, an original character of mine that focuses on making unique artworks that basically screams rebel with lots of bold colors. Maquire is also notable for her collaborations with various local artists to make various unique merchandises. In the future, I want to make more fashion-related items such as jewelries and t-shirts.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Seeing my works being used by someone. So far it has been the most fulfilling one for me. Either seeing people tag me and my merch on their Stories, recognizing my works or even wear them in public.
Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I think as an artist it is important to know your market and really present and confident of what you do. I know a lot of artists might feel extremely uncomfortable with what they do but it isn’t about how good your works are, sometimes you have to swallow your pride and just put yourself out there.
Realistically speaking, you have to be actively joining art conventions, markets and really communicate with others genuinely.
