We recently connected with N8 Carter and have shared our conversation below.
N8, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
Growing up I’ve always been a creative artist. I started out in acting and transitioned more into live performances. And I think back a lot on how much I did truly love being on stage but when you’re off stage and back to life how difficult it was. What you were actually good at people made you feel like it wasn’t a real talent or skill when it was! So sometimes I wish I believed in myself more and that’s something that I would tell any artist who like live performing. Also having the funds to work on your craft was really tough as well so that’s where I think finding work outside of your craft actually was really good for me. I wouldn’t say it made me happier but it gave me more comfort for sure.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
So for the people that haven’t read about me before, I am Hip hop artist. I’ve been making music since I was a kid. I started off as a young actor in various projects and grew to just love performing and loving music more. I’ve been rapping since I was like 5 writing raps and making songs about anything. I started the hip hop club in high school where I hosted freestyle rap battles at lunch time. Which I started to make a name for myself with my peers. Then I got a degree in music at the LA Film School after I graduated high school. I then started to build my own studio, running sessions, and producing my own albums. Which I recently just released my latest album Carter, which I engineered on my own, and is out on all platforms. I am most proud of my short film I put together called Gawdly, it is available for free to watch on Vimeo. It was my vision in a whole and it did so much for me and my career.

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
So a time in my life where I actually kind of wanted to pivot in my career is recently. I am in the process right now of becoming a commercial airline pilot. I just completed my privates license so I’ve been having some fun with that, getting to the goal, and being a professional pilot.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn and more of a way of life is to stop hating and just become better. People are working harder than me and want it more so stop hating.
