We were lucky to catch up with N. Renee McFadden recently and have shared our conversation below.
N. Renee, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Thank you for asking. Super Model 360 has a double meaning. ‘Super Model’ refers to a standout role model – someone who has a significant, positive impact on others. ‘360’ describes the personal branding process that I take my clients through. My coaching technique is holistic and intentional. I don’t just move my clients forward which is what separates life coaches from counselors and therapists. I delve into their past experiences to help them remember their true “why” and then we journey back to the present and incorporate this into their vision for their business.
My tagline is “The Beauty of Masterful Influence”. Once my clients master (understand, embrace, and continuously refine) their skills and natural gifts – they can live much more fulfilling lives and radiate this essence throughout the world.
N. Renee, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I believe that life coaching – or what I like to call ‘self-mastery’ coaching – chose me. There were three significant instances in my life where I studied the people around me and noticed that something was missing. The first was growing up and hearing people constantly complain about their situations but not being willing to incorporate realistic solutions to move past the discomfort. The second was while I was working in small business banking for six years. I noticed that my colleagues resented the demands of their jobs although they were making a decent living. Many of them played the lottery with hopes that they could one day escape the rat race. The third instance came when I used to lead a women’s network with my former business partner. I witnessed many of the members struggle with gaining their independence from unhealthy relationships and careers that they didn’t love. It pained me to see that so many individuals felt that they weren’t equipped to walk away from things and people that did not serve them. As I replayed all of these instances I had grappled over the years, I was forced to examine my own life and realized I was actually unfulfilled like many of the people I had studied. I had spent so much time trying to be everyone else’s cheerleader while convincing them of their greatness that my spirit was literally dying inside. I am an insulin-dependent diabetic and my condition gradually worsened due to stress and worry. So, I had to make a hard decision. I resigned from my dream job in 2018 and dissolved the women’s network in early 2019. After being hospitalized multiple times, I went on a painful journey of rediscovering my truest self. A part of that journey was me becoming a certified psychosynthesis life coach. I knew when I joined the 9-month program, in September 2019, that I was exactly where I was supposed to be. As a result of that journey, I now offer individual and group coaching to prospective clients seeking to tap into their values to lead more authentic lives. My signature 12-week brand elevation program helps individuals realign with their divine calling in order to create a branded personal platform that will allow them to create greater impact. I am proud of the fact that, although coaching can be taxing due to me having to hold so much space for others, I have a true passion for the work and so I have continued to move forward with helping those who find value in what I offer.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One invaluable way I’ve had to recondition myself is not saying “yes” to every ask. And not just any ask. But an ask that could exhaust a lot of my time or require a financial investment of some sort that isn’t equitable. I used to think that my purpose was to support anyone who asked for my assistance whether it was a family member, friend, workplace associate or potential client. I have experienced many hurtful moments because I didn’t understand what ‘alignment’ meant. I didn’t understand that I needed to counter the requests by asking the person’s values so that I could ensure they aligned with my own. I like to operate with integrity. Not everyone leads with this foundational trait. I believe in effective communication – meaning there’s no need to assume how someone is feeling or what they are thinking. Simply asking, for clearer understanding, moves us all forward.
Any advice for managing a team?
It goes back to ‘effective communication’ which I highly recommend. I partner with two amazing individuals (Blair DeVereaux Robinson and Darryl Humphrey II) who are excellent at the photography and cinematography services they provide to our clients. At the close of each year, we meet to discuss our updated pricing structure and any policy changes for the following year. If there is ever a personal issue or an issue with a client, we discuss it immediately to get to a swift resolution while maintaining the highest level of professionalism. I feel that effective communication is a cornerstone of any sustainable business model and life overall.
I would also like to add ‘respect’. When striving to communicate effectively, respecting the other party’s perspective is integral to the growth of the relationship.
