We were lucky to catch up with Mytrae Meliana recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mytrae, appreciate you joining us today. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
I was a few months away from getting licensed as a holistic psychotherapist. I was very excited and thought this would be my work for the rest of my life. I hadn’t worked for myself before so it was new territory for me. I consulted with my intern supervisor, teachers in graduate school, and my therapist friends on how to go about that.
I was visiting a spiritual center in Brazil at this time, where I began receiving messages from Spirit about my work. I was told that my work was about the Divine Feminine and sound healing. None of this made sense to me. In fact, it seemed completely ludicrous. I was a pianist, but didn’t know anything about how sound can heal. And I had no idea how I could possibly make a living with something as broad, vague, and unmaterialistic as the Divine Feminine!
But we receive messages as seeds for our future. I set up and built my private practice, though my work quickly changed to explicitly include the spiritual. I offered past life regression, then learned about and trained in sound healing. My clients made huge, even extraordinary shifts. My work evolved to leading women’s groups and teaching women’s workshops, and, over time, about the Divine Feminine.
I learned from this experience that our path may become very different from what we assumed or set out to be. Our Soul has a purpose for us each lifetime. When we are ready, we are shown through experiences of dissatisfaction, things not working out, or receiving messages about our purpose.
It is always a choice, of course. But when we follow what we receive intuitively, we are led on a path that is unknown, and that few others have walked. But our path is our very own. Only when we walk our path do we find not only success but fulfillment. Our intuition guides us far better than our mind or following society or family’s expectations.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
My personal healing and growth, along with my spiritual evolution have been a priority. In the healing and empowerment field, we need to work on ourselves just as much as we share and offer others. The more whole, healthy, and empowered we are, the more we can share with the people we work with.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
I have needed to learn (and am still unlearning) not to stay small. Having grown up in India and to my family, women had a very specific place in the world. I was not expected to do anything of substance beyond becoming a wife and mother. Further, I was brought up not to speak up, speak out or express my power or gifts other than in socially accepted ways.
In my evolution from psychotherapist to women’s empowerment teacher, I have needed to unlearn staying small. These scripts live deep in us when they are handed down by our cultures and ancestors. I continue to dismantle these scripts by claiming and expressing my voice, truth, and that I have something valuable to offer.
