We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Myron Evansjohnson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Myron, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
The story behind my mission has been indirectly and directly clear to most creatives, but not to black & white business colleagues. My mission in short, has always been to create a platform for ample amount of emerging & creative individuals to voice, visualize and bring to life their talent in a welcoming way. Understanding first hand how those with less knowledge of art or how it creates fun fellowship atmospheres criticize the work and energy of artist of all sorts generally makes me want to develop avenues that affect the public and surrounding communities in the most positive way possible in the humanitarian, fashion and art fields.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Myron Evans-Johnson & I am the sole founder of the company “Culture Studios. Since a young boy, my style & creativeness has been a few of the many memorable things consumers and peers found that stood out of my statue. We specialize in creative services such as fashion photography, styling, creative direction and model talent booking services. I always knew I would dabble in the fashion industry at one point or another, I just didn’t know with what, I went to college for business administration and fashion merchandising for a year and a half in Houston TX soon after high school.
I’ve always been a businessman with good fashion sense so it was easy for me. But one thing I didn’t know was that most things as far as photography and fashion is concerned is based on field experience. You have to actually make mistakes and take risks (which was something already mastered). I began shooting brands along with couture designs with friends and locals to build my network. I was focused. I moved from having a phone full of associates to have a phone full of business contacts. Ever since then, my focus has been fashion and photography along with the creative production needs to put things together. I’ve shoot at New York Fashion Week, as well as local couture shows in Houston and other cities.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
When you build something from the bottom up no matter how big or small, you’ll find yourself learning things from all different sides, angles and perspectives. But the real challenge is consciously knowing what knowledge to keep and use for building for the upcoming chapters of a unfinished book, and what to leave in the prior chapters that have ended.
One thing I’ve learned is that everyone has a passion and skills. And up untill about 2 years ago I was under the impression that my passion at the time would be it for life but boy was I misguided. See, I’ve always been good at business which is why I went to college for business administration. However , I also enjoyed expressing myself through art, hence why I minored in fashion merchandising. The killer part is that there was business in everything I did, which I handled with ease which could easily be its own profession. I didn’t recognize this at the time because I was overly focused on one particular craft which was fashion and its umbrella skill sets. Examples would include fashion marketing, book-keeping, public relations, social media management, client relations, talent scouting, business consulting, contract drafting & review, web development, travel coordinator, photography and event planning. These were all task done daily to accommodate the needs of the agency.
There’s nothing wrong with focusing on one niche, avenue or skill set, untill you realize your true passion has been under your nose the entire time just in multiple avenues; In this case, mine happened to be business. I had to unlearn how to be overly focused on one thing. Reason being is that I missed many opportunities and monetary values looking solely at one thing and not the big picture which I would’ve naturally flowed into sooner.

Have you ever had to pivot?
As we all know 2019-2021 December was a few of the toughest years society has ever seen. During this time, the pandemic not only caused thousands and thousands of hospitalized victims of COVID-19 to endure a health shock, but also in more ways than one paralyzed the united states economy and the small business portion of the world.
The small business portion of the world in my opinion is the key factor in operations modern day society. Daycare centers, dry cleaners, privately owned agencies and schools are things we use daily as small businesses that were majorly affected. However, as a small business being in the arts industry, mine was affected as well.
With the vaccination underway and still questionable, quarantine was mandatory to remain unaffected by the virus. This single handedly made things difficult for business continuation. With it being impossible at the time to meet in person for model training, photoshoots, out of state bookings, public speaking and different behind the scenes crafts, the decision had become apparent that a pivot was needed.
In business nothing is guaranteed. With everything happening so swiftly, it frightened a few silent partners due to the dramatic decrease in revenue which lead to the backpedaling away from the business with a mind frame that things would not be the same. With no backing of the “for-profit”, I decided to change directions. To go bigger or go home. “Not-for-profit” was one of the greatest ideas I’ve ever had. In a way it seemed like my next calling. So even though the pandemic caused deflation in a prior chapter, it opened up many avenues that will enhance the primary idea of helping others through business, art, science, travel and real-estate which are currently underway.
