We were lucky to catch up with Myriam Lopez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Myriam, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Have you signed with an agent or manager? Why or why not?
Signing with an agent is an exciting milestone in an actor’s career. It marks the beginning of a professional partnership that can open doors to new opportunities and help navigate the complex world of the entertainment industry. An agent acts as a guide and advocate, working tirelessly to secure auditions, negotiate contracts, and promote their clients’ talents. With their extensive network of industry contacts, an agent can connect actors with casting directors, producers, and other influential figures who can propel their careers forward. From selecting the right headshots and crafting a compelling resume to strategizing long-term career goals, an agent provides invaluable guidance, ensuring that actors are positioned for success. Collaborating with an agent also brings a sense of validation and credibility, as it signifies that someone believes in their talent and potential.
Myriam, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
As a Mexican actor based in Montreal, Canada, I have had the privilege of honing my craft for the past four years. Immersed in the vibrant and diverse acting scene of this multicultural city, I have explored various avenues, including theater, film, and television. Along the way, I have taken on challenging roles in local productions, gaining valuable experience and nurturing my skills. Recently, my hard work and dedication paid off as I secured a role in a feature film, a testament to the progress I have made in my career. Additionally, I was fortunate enough to be cast in a television series directed by the renowned filmmaker Philippe Falardeau. These incredible opportunities have further fueled my passion for acting, and I am deeply committed to continuously improving my craft. I embrace the challenges that come with the profession, always striving to deliver authentic performances that resonate with audiences. Acting is not just a job for me; it is my true passion, and I am dedicated to pursuing it wholeheartedly.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
As an actor, the most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is the transformative power of storytelling. Through the art of acting, I have the privilege of embodying diverse characters and bringing their stories to life. It is a deeply fulfilling experience to step into someone else’s shoes, exploring their emotions, motivations, and perspectives. This process allows me to connect with the human experience on a profound level, fostering empathy and understanding. Witnessing the impact that my performances can have on an audience, whether it be evoking laughter, tears, or introspection, is incredibly gratifying. I cherish the moments when I can touch hearts, challenge assumptions, and inspire others through the stories I help to tell. Being an actor grants me the opportunity to contribute to the collective consciousness, to provoke thought, and to spark conversations that can shape and transform society. Ultimately, the most rewarding aspect of being an actor is the ability to use my craft to impact and uplift others, making a difference in the world through the power of storytelling.
Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
There is indeed an aspect of my journey as a creative actor that non-creatives may struggle to fully comprehend. It is the constant dance between vulnerability and resilience that defines the artist’s path. As actors, we willingly expose our innermost selves, tapping into the depths of our emotions and baring our souls to bring characters to life. This level of vulnerability can be both exhilarating and terrifying, as we open ourselves to judgment, rejection, and the uncertainties of the industry. Non-creatives might find it challenging to grasp the emotional toll that auditions, rejections, and the unpredictable nature of the profession can have on an artist’s psyche. However, it is precisely within these moments of struggle that we find our strength and resilience. We learn to embrace the journey, to persist despite setbacks, and to find solace and inspiration in the process itself. Our creative spirit fuels us, propelling us forward even when the path seems uncertain. Non-creatives might benefit from understanding that behind the scenes, our journey as actors encompasses not only the pursuit of fame or recognition but also a deep-rooted desire to express ourselves authentically and make a meaningful impact through our art. Through this insight, they can gain a greater appreciation for the dedication, perseverance, and unwavering passion that underpin our creative endeavors.
