We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Myranda Escamilla a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Myranda , appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew following an artistic path was for me when I realized it helped tame my anxiety and depression. I find my mind can’t race if I keep my hands busy enough. The act of being creative can be used as a form of meditation and so when I sit on my chair to work on a project, I am committing myself to therapy. Art has been my saving grace and it will always be.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am the sole owner of Shape + Form, a small jewelry business for the contemporary human. My jewelry is about finding beauty in the smallest of things, however seemingly insignificant. I hope to help change the way polymer clay is viewed and received by the world as a medium for jewelry, so that it resonates with humans with an appreciation for craftsmanship and art.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Getting to share my story and my perception of life through jewelry is a huge privilege. I’m just glad people have been so welcoming and open to what I put out into the world.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I take social media only as serious as I have to, sometimes to my detriment. It’s become more and more necessary to be active online although, I find the more I need to do it, the less I want to – it’s hard putting yourself out there when you’re not feeling up to it. It’s important to start small, build a presence little by little. Share mundane details about your everyday life. Sometimes this resonates with people the most – the little things.
