We recently connected with Myra Toribio and have shared our conversation below.
Myra, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I have worked in Human Services as a Case Manager for over 20 years and just knew without a doubt that I would retire from that position. Being a Case Manager has been one of the most rewarding jobs I could have ever had the pleasure of doing. It’s a hard job and not for the weak but so worth it when you see the difference and outcomes for the individuals and families that you have assisted. During my career span I have worked with everything from Medicaid to working with our local homeless population and I can truly say that was and will always be my true calling because I love helping people and making a difference in their lives. In 2017 I had a Breast Cancer scare when they found 4 masses in my right breast. It was a defining moment for me because I was a Financial Case Manager in the Oncology Department and talked to women facing this and worst diagnosis everyday. While going through the process of more test and mammograms my friend Ouida who was already on her own Spiritual Journey was a huge support to me during this time. She helped me to truly go within and start giving myself the same love and care that I freely gave to everyone else. I started meditating more and speaking healing affirmations over myself and finding a peace with the entire situation where I would normally be panicked. I felt such a calmness and some how knew all would be ok. Within in a week to 2 week time frame 3 of my masses had disappeared but I still had one that looked suspicious so they wanted me to have a biopsy done. I had the procedure done and thankfully I was Cancer free. That whole experience change me drastically and it helped me to realize that it was ok for me to live my entire truth out loud. It was as if God himself had ripped off the bandage and told me it was my time to live fully. It was the most beautiful and spiritual experience that still gives me chills to this day. The caveat to this story is that even though I grew up in a Baptist Church my entire life there was something that I did not want people to know and that was that I had the gift of knowing things. My Great-Grandmother told my parents when I was born that I was born with a vale over my face which meant I was “special” in some way. They were like yeah ok, but did notice there maybe something to it when I started seeing dead family members at a young age that I never knew. Fast forward back to 2017 after my Cancer scare I was no longer afraid to be different and that is when Intuitive Readings By Myra was born. I still was only half way out of the closet so to speak because of the fear of being judged by my fellow church folk and some of my family, I felt so torn because I wanted to walk in my truth about my gift but I also did not want to hear the constant hell, fire and brimstone because that is surely where I am going according to so many people. I finally reached a place of comfort and stopped operating in the shadows 2 years ago when I got my own space to start seeing my clients. During this process I still worked as a Case Manager but I noticed I was starting to feel unfulfilled. I still loved what I was doing but I was being led more to my Spiritual work and practices and helping those clients seek the healing and answers they were needing and looking for. I continued doing this part-time while working my regular job because I had bills to pay and responsibilities, and I knew my part-time business would not be enough. I continued working during the day and seeing my clients in the evening and it was working out well. One day out of the blue I was sitting at my desk and I heard a little voice in my head say it’s time. I sat there thinking time for what? I sat with those thoughts for a few days trying to figure thing out how my life would be affected if I walked away from my 9 to 5 and truly followed my heart and worked for myself 100%. It was a scary thought but I turned in my notice that day and I never looked back. As a matter of fact me being obedient to that little voice that I heard has pushed me out of my comfort zone and I am able to help my clients and welcome more clients now that I offer more hours of availability. Since taking this risk not only has my clientele grew, but I can speak with them first hand about my experience and how it is a good thing to get out of your own way and out of your comfort zone. It wont be easy, but it is so worth it. I have expanded my business to also offer Life Coaching and self care items such as Shea Butter, Candles and more. I still get the fire and brimstone comments from time to time, but the happiness that I have being able to help my clients in my own way has and will forever be worth the risk. I am truly blessed and the happiest I have been in a very long time.

Myra, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I have had the “gift of knowing” things ever since I was a little girl. I just was not open about it until 2017. This is when my business Intuitive Readings By Myra was born. I am able to read your energy, give you answers to questions that you may have and I also can connect with your loved ones who have crossed over. Everyone always wants to give me the label of a psychic. While I do not have any issues with that I prefer to just call it what it is which is the gift of knowing. Each experience with my clients are different because I always ask them to pray or meditate prior to the appointment so that they can receive the information that they need. Our sessions are more than flipping a few cards to look in to your life. These sessions are meant to not only give you another perspective about what you need to know but I also provide you with a map of sorts of what steps you need to take to change your situation for the better. I truly believe that everything you need is within you, but sometimes you need a little help getting there. Self-care is also a huge part of what I do so that has led me to create items to help you with that such as candles, bath scrubs and other items. I pride myself on being a safe place for everyone to come and lay their burdens down. When we connect we are truly in it for the long haul and we are going to make sure that you leave out feeling better than when you came in. You just have to be open to the process and the rest will come together as it needs to. I offer a judgement free zone and I am truly committed to helping you get to the best place possible for yourself. I am so proud to be able to offer the services that I do because being able to show up for myself in a true authentic way will allow me to help you do the same.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
My most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been social media. Learn bout ALL social media and don’t be afraid to use it and promote yourself. The amount of new potential clientele that you can reach from engagement and posting is amazing. I also make sure that I post something everyday so that you don’t get lost in the algorithm and I make my postings public so it reaches more people. Create you a business page that way you can promote on your personal page and your business page. Google has also been a huge help with increasing my clientele. I live in NC but have clients as far away as California. I always ask how did you find me and they always say it was with Google. There are a lot of ways to promote yourself without breaking the bank which is so important when you are first starting out. The most important strategy of all is patience. Slow growth is not a bad thing and for me personally that has created more longevity for a lot of my clients. So in times when I haven’t had a lot of new clientele my current ones keep me going and busy.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
I feel that the most important thing for you to have to succeed in my field is empathy. You can not be judgmental and you have to be very ethical with your practice. You are sometimes meeting people during some of the worst times of their lives and you need to make sure to provide a safe and confidential space for them to open up and feel heard.
