We were lucky to catch up with Myra Escalera recently and have shared our conversation below.
Myra, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
To be successful, I believe it takes a combination of factors. Over my 20+ years of professional experience, I’ve come to understand that having a clear vision and mission is crucial. You need to know what you want to achieve and why. In today’s ever-changing business world, staying ahead requires embracing adaptability and innovation to stand out. Customer satisfaction is crucial, as happy customers not only stay loyal but also become your biggest supporters. Additionally, hard work, dedication, and a strong work ethic are essential. Success requires putting in the time and effort to reach your goals.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a first-generation Mexican-American who was inspired by family and friends who are entrepreneurs. After pursuing a business education and working across various industries, my journey led me to create Ro + Ivy. We initially focused on providing resources for bloggers, entrepreneurs, and startups.
However, when the pandemic hit, we decided to venture into the world of women’s fashion. Today, Ro + Ivy is a women’s boutique with a mission: we believe fashion should be effortless, laid-back, and inspiring. Our collections feature carefully curated, high-quality pieces that embody boho chic style with a modern twist, at affordable prices. We have a blend of dreamy maxi dresses, chic jumpsuits, and flowy wide-leg pants with contemporary elements.
What sets us apart is our commitment to affordable style that doesn’t compromise on quality. We’re proud of our journey and invite potential customers to experience the unique blend of fashion and affordability that Ro + Ivy offers.
Any advice for managing a team?
I wholeheartedly believe that to boost team morale and productivity, it’s all about having strong leadership that leads by example – getting right in there with your team and working side by side. It’s about emphasizing open communication, nurturing personal and professional growth, and expressing appreciation for your team’s efforts. Don’t forget to encourage a healthy work-life balance, add some fun activities, empower your team, value their feedback, and create a welcoming work environment to maintain high morale and achieve success together as a team.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
I’ve learned a lot from hands-on experiences, but a few key resources have also shaped my perspective:
-
I’m a fan of TED Talks and industry events, especially those about leadership, innovation, and entrepreneurship. They’ve expanded my horizons and introduced me to new ideas. My favorite this year was HubSpot’s Inbound 23 event.
-
Connecting with mentors and industry peers has been invaluable. Learning from seasoned professionals has given me practical advice.
-
I’ve taken online courses on leadership and entrepreneurship, acquiring new skills.
Combining these resources has helped me create a positive environment for my team and shape my leadership approach.
