We were lucky to catch up with Myles Ragin recently and have shared our conversation below.
Myles, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s the best or worst investment you’ve made?
We’re thrilled to share that our most impactful move has been strategically reinvesting resources from our inaugural year into the subsequent one. While offering a highly sought-after service, breaking into the market proved challenging initially. However, by channeling our efforts into dynamic marketing strategies and assembling an exceptional team, we’ve experienced substantial growth. The journey has been exciting, and we’re genuinely grateful for the positive impact these investments have had on our success which allows us to make more magical moments happen. Looking forward to more milestones ahead!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Donnie and I stumbled upon our unique venture after Donnie discovered a growing trend of dog handlers—whether friends of the couple, neighbors, or gig dog walkers—canceling last-minute to prioritize their four-legged friends on the couple’s big day—cue the canine wedding crashers! This led to tales of wedding day woes, and recognizing a need, Donnie invited me to join forces due to my background in house and dog sitting for high-end clients, as well as volunteering at animal rescue spots.
And so, Bow Wow Weddings was born! Our mission is to sweep away all the logistical headaches associated with including your pup in your nuptials, offering couples unparalleled peace of mind. From dressing and transporting to keeping a watchful eye, assisting with photos, and offering full-on dog-sitting services, all we need from you is an itinerary.
What sets us apart is being a one-stop service, providing an inclusive experience that eliminates the need for constant handoffs and juggling various responsibilities for your furry friend. While we proudly wear the badge of Dog Lovers first, we’re also big fans of people! Last year, we spread joy by randomly gifting two free weddings to those who couldn’t afford our services, aiming to create magical moments and bring smiles to their faces.
Equally, our proudest achievement is our incredible staff. Entrusting someone with the responsibility of handling a wedding is no small feat, as it requires execution with near-perfection. However, our team has exceeded expectations this year, and we couldn’t be more proud of them.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
Donnie and I still work day jobs, believe it or not. While we initially thought our business wouldn’t demand much overhead, the reality surprised us. Providing a top-notch service for dogs, often in the luxury category, turned out to be more expensive than our initial estimates. Nonetheless, we’re committed to offering the best for our furry clients, as for many, we are a luxury service, and for some, a necessity.
To fund our venture, Donnie continues his work in accounting, and I rely on gig jobs like Door Dash or Qwick Gigs. Occasionally, these flexible gigs help ensure we have the resources to provide the high-end experience we aspire to offer. Balancing the demands of our day jobs with the passion for our business has its challenges, but it’s a journey we’re dedicated to navigating for the love of our canine clients and their owners.

We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Donnie and I first crossed paths in college through a mutual friend. Our friendship deepened as we teamed up for intramural sports and shared accounting classes. Junior year brought a realization – we both despised accounting. Fueled by a joint desire to escape the numbers game, we envisioned opening a golf-themed carwash named Caddie Carwash, emphasizing excellent customer service. However, the funding puzzle remained unsolved.
Post-college, our friendship endured, leading us to Bow Wow Weddings. It was the perfect pivot, allowing us to indulge our shared love for dogs and providing a delightful escape from the world of accounting. Our journey from accounting classmates to dog-loving entrepreneurs has been both unexpected and rewarding. Here’s to embracing new adventures and leaving the number-crunching behind!
