We were lucky to catch up with Myles Carter recently and have shared our conversation below.
Myles, appreciate you joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Yes I always knew I wanted to do music, I first knew when I was a little kid in church watching my family sing in the choir which sparked my interest into pursuing a career.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I first started out recording with my nephew he was the first person to introduce me to the music life we had in Burlington, IA. From there til 2019 I was just recording and dropping music on SoundCloud and YouTube. I joined my nephew with his rap group until I went my own way and started my label “ZTR” (Zoomin Through Reality). My goal really with music is just to be that one vibe that brings people together. I want my music to be something that you could play for any mood your in sad, happy, lit, or if your just trying to catch a vibe I want to connect with my audience emotionally and give them a euphoric ride. I also believe that’s what sets me apart from a lot of artist nowadays I want to share cool experiences with people and not just make a check to make a check honestly money at the end of all this isn’t something you can take with you so I’d much rather take the love and support on my journey over anything.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I’m learning currently is “not everybody is against you and not everybody is here to help you”. It’s not much of a story it’s just comes with the territory a lot of people you meet online would have your best interest in heart more than someone you’ve known for years. You really just got to find those you trust at the end of it all and make sure you give the energy you want to receive as well.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Well the overall goal is to make a career out of this of course but what my mission right now is to just touch as many people as possible and share an experience, connection, moment whatever you’d like to describe it as together collectively I want to build something that’s memorable with everyone.
