We recently connected with Mykeya Haygood and have shared our conversation below.

Mykeya, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.

I am currently taking a risk and betting on myself. Last year God placed the idea of a live audience on my heart and I immediately knew it was time to execute. I didn’t have much of a budget, but I was determined to make it happen. After only a few weeks of planning, I had come to the realization that it was simply not my time. Fast forward here I am today an exact year later, planning my first live audience production for my podcast, Unlocked With Keys. This will be the “Unlocked Limits, Live Experience.” I started off with no budget to God moving mountains on my behalf. What’s so special about this live audience is, it’s not your typical event. There will be live music, Hors d’oeuvres, two shows, and special amenities for our sponsors and V.I.P ticket holders. This event is taking place on the rooftop of the Detroit Pistons Performance Center in their Loft space. This is my first ever event let alone live audience and I am THRILLED HONEY! God has been speaking to me about elevation and getting out of my mediocre ways of thinking and living. It is time to intentionally build my legacy, brand, and make an even larger impact in this world.
I would look at this as not a risk, but an investment, an opportunity to destroy generational curses. Mykeya, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Mykeya Latia Haygood and I am the host / founder of the podcast, Unlocked With Keys. I got into this industry back in 2017 as some friends and I decided to start a tv show that aired on CMNtv. This was a hobby that quickly turned into a passion, as I discovered my gift for media journalism. To be clear, Unlocked With Keys is a brand that specializes in podcasting, fashion, and soon real estate. I understand that there are many wonderful podcast, which is why I hone into candid storytelling and unparallel experiences. We believe that your testimony can be the key to someones breakthrough. I am most proud of my most recent season I released. I had big dreams for this production and God blew my mind with the outcome. I had the honor of unlocking with grammy award winning artist Kierra Sheard-Kelly, Detroit’s very own City Council President, and so many more honorable guest. This season showed me that closed mouths can simply not get fed. I am so fortunate to have great relationships, but I still had to ask for what I wanted. Everyone who was apart of season 4 truly made it so special. I want my new fans to know that this is a safe space to unlock. I understand that we all have our own journey and may even share a similar path and that is something I do not take lightly. I truly love people and enjoy a good laugh, food, and memories. What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?

Authenticity has helped build my reputation. I am a firm believer in being your most authentic self and not an image that the world creates. I understand that we are exposed to so much information today, but protecting my peace and getting to know myself has grounded me in loving myself daily. It’s not always a walk in the park, however I understand how uniquely dope I am and thankful that God created a woman like myself. Be your authentic self and if you don’t know who that is, its okay; spend more time alone truly discovering every layer about your life. I promise you will love what you learn. Read, Proverbs 31:29

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?

I would pose a question to non-creatives, “Do you want to live freely?” Being a creative brings so much freedom to live the life that God has truly designed us to live. It stops us from settling and pushes you to experiences that are bigger than you. Replace fear with excitement, adrenaline, joy, and life! Think back to a time when you were a child, so fearless, creating, and having big dreams in an even bigger world. If you can think back to that little boy or girl you once were, I’m sure you will remember how creative you really are. We are all creative in our own special way.
