We were lucky to catch up with Mykerah Mackey-Robinson recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mykerah , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
The idea for my business did not arrive all at once. It grew in my heart over time as I lived, worked, observed, and listened. I always believed education had the power to change lives, yet I began to notice that the people leading the work, the adults who poured into students every day, were hurting. I felt a spiritual prompting during that season that I was being called to do more, and at the same time, I was witnessing school cultures that were slowly breaking down the very people needed to sustain them.
I spent years in education watching talented, passionate, purpose driven teachers walk away from the profession. These were educators who once walked into the building with joy, creativity, and hope, but the weight of the environment dimmed their light. Many left not because of the students, but because of burnout, poor leadership experiences, and school cultures that did not nurture the well being of adults. I began to see a pattern. When leadership was unstable or emotionally unhealthy, the culture of the school reflected it. Morale dropped, communication suffered, and turnover increased. It became clear to me that leadership was the root, and if the root was weak, the entire school would struggle.
The vision began to crystallize through countless conversations with educators who confided in me. Teachers and leaders would pull me aside after meetings, text me after hours, or call just to process what they were experiencing. They would share their frustrations, their exhaustion, and their desire to feel valued and supported again. Many were searching for direction, healing, and someone to help them navigate the emotional and relational side of leadership. I realized that I was naturally coaching people through their challenges, and the more I listened, the more I understood that what they needed did not currently exist in schools. They needed a space to grow both personally and professionally. They needed leadership development that touched the heart, not just the job description.
That realization was the turning point. I knew the work I felt called to do needed its own platform, its own language, and its own framework. That is when Robinson Literacy and Leadership Consulting was born. I created The Fruitful Leadership Framework as a guide for leaders to strengthen who they are on the inside so they can lead people well on the outside. It focuses on developing leaders from the inside out, nurturing their character, emotional wellness, and leadership practices, because the culture will always reflect the leader. As I continued doing this work, I saw that teachers also needed support, so I expanded the mission and created Revive the Educator. This initiative helps teachers heal from burnout and reconnect to their purpose so they can lead with clarity, joy, confidence, and a renewed sense of voice.
I knew this work would make a difference because the need was evident and repeated in every school I touched. Teachers were not leaving because they no longer loved students. They were leaving because the culture did not sustain them, and leaders did not always have the tools to support the whole educator. I believed that if I could help leaders grow into emotionally healthy, self aware, and intentional leaders, both teachers and students would thrive. When a leader grows, the culture grows. When leaders heal, they create spaces where others can heal too.
What excites me the most about this work is witnessing transformation. I love seeing leaders discover who they were meant to be and step into their role with dignity, compassion, and confidence. I love watching joy return to schools and seeing teachers choose to stay because they finally feel seen, supported, and valued. This work is deeply personal for me. It is legacy work. It is about restoring the heart of education and creating schools that are not only effective, but healthy, joyful, and life giving for every person inside the building.

Mykerah , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Mykerah Mackey Robinson and I am the Founder and CEO of Robinson Literacy and Leadership Consulting. I am a leadership coach, author, culture specialist, and speaker committed to transforming how leaders show up in schools and organizations. My work is rooted in a belief that leadership sets the tone for every environment and that when leaders grow, everyone connected to them benefits.
I entered the education field because I wanted to make a meaningful impact on students, but my journey quickly expanded beyond the classroom. In addition to teaching, I served as a coach for teachers, supporting them in their instructional practice, professional growth, and overall development. In this role, I gained a deeper understanding of the real challenges educators face behind the scenes. I saw firsthand how the culture of a school and the leadership guiding it had a direct influence on teacher morale, retention, and well being.
Over the years, I noticed a consistent pattern. Talented and passionate teachers were slowly losing their joy. Many were overwhelmed, discouraged, or considering leaving the profession, not because of students, but because of unhealthy school cultures and leadership practices that did not support or value the adults doing the work. At the same time, I saw school leaders carrying the weight of leadership without the training, emotional support, or tools necessary to lead people well. These experiences opened my eyes to a gap that needed to be filled.
Because I was both a teacher and a teacher coach, many educators and leaders began seeking me out for guidance. They trusted me with their frustrations, fears, and hopes for better workplace experiences. I found myself helping them navigate difficult conversations, rebuild confidence, and reconnect to their purpose. The more I listened, the more I understood that education did not just need better systems. It needed healthier leaders, stronger school culture, and spaces for educators to heal and grow. This realization sparked the creation of Robinson Literacy and Leadership Consulting.
Today, I provide leadership coaching for school and organizational leaders, culture consulting for schools, Revive the Educator™ workshops and PD sessions, keynotes, author events, and books for educators, leaders, and young learners. My services are designed to develop leaders from the inside out and strengthen school culture in a way that supports long term retention, well being, and growth. I also authored a children’s book that introduces leadership skills and positive character development at an early age because I believe leadership begins long before adulthood.
What sets my work apart is my holistic and human centered approach to leadership development. I created The Fruitful Leadership Framework™ to guide leaders through a process of inner transformation that shapes how they lead and influence others. Revive the Educator™ supports teachers in healing from burnout, reconnecting to their purpose, and reclaiming their voice and joy in education. My work blends leadership development, educator well being, and culture strengthening because all three are essential for a school to thrive.
I am most proud of the transformation that takes place when leaders and educators engage in this work. I have seen schools shift from environments filled with frustration and discouragement to spaces of collaboration, joy, and renewed purpose. Hearing a teacher share that they chose not to leave the profession after a session or watching a leader rediscover confidence and clarity confirms the impact. This work is more than consulting. It is legacy work that is shaping the future of education one leader, one school, and one culture at a time.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my social media audience by sharing my expertise consistently and showing up with authenticity. I made a decision to use social media as a space to not only share information, but to serve, educate, and inspire educators and leaders. I started by posting short, relatable, and practical leadership and educator content on TikTok, and the response grew quickly. People connected with the way I communicated, the encouragement I offered, and the truth I spoke about school culture, leadership, and educator well being. My content resonated because it was real, relevant, and rooted in experience.
My advice for anyone starting to build their social media presence is to begin before you feel fully ready. Do not worry about perfection. Focus on value and consistency. Speak from your experience and share what you know, even if you are still growing. People connect with real voices, not curated ones. It is also important to know who you are talking to and to speak directly to their needs and pain points. When your content is helpful, authentic, and consistent, your audience will grow. Most importantly, remember that social media is a tool. Use it with intention, purpose, and heart.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
One of the most effective strategies for growing my clientele has been building genuine relationships within the education community. Instead of relying solely on online promotion, I made a decision to show up where educators and leaders are. I attend education events, conferences, and professional gatherings to connect with people in meaningful and authentic ways. I also volunteer at schools and educational organizations, not for exposure, but because it allows me to serve, understand the community, and build trust.
These experiences strengthened my network and led to organic referrals. People remember how you make them feel, and when they experience my heart for this work in person, it often opens doors for future partnerships. Many of my opportunities came from someone who interacted with me at an event, heard me speak, or worked alongside me in an educational setting. The personal connection created credibility and made it easier for organizations to see the value of bringing Robinson Literacy and Leadership Consulting on board. For me, relationship building has been the most impactful growth strategy because education is a people centered field, and trust is earned through presence, service, and connection.
