Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mykal. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mykal, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
i knew at a very young age I wanted to do something creative with my life . Music has always been something of interest to me , because my father is a songwriter and a musician . When I was a child I would always hear records of my dad playing around the house and would always see him coming in late nights from the studio with my mom. I was real privy to music back then and always had an understanding of melodies and what makes a song stand out because of the type of records i would hear playing around me . I started writing music around the age of 12 and started recording when I was 15. . I fell in love with the process of creating and ever since then it’s been non stop .
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am not your average creative. I wear many hats when needed and never falter when it comes to getting the job done. Aside from being a recording artist & songwriter .. I specialize in artist development , curating sounds and creating identities for every individual I work with . The thing I take pride in the most about what I do is bringing the best qualities of an artist out to the forefront and showcasing it in ways they have not yet realized and or seen before. Nobody really understands what it is that I do, until they are in the room with me . Whether I’m writing a record , executive producing a project, doing vocal production and or just simply doing arrangements you could tell that what I do is a big reason why I am called upon and sought after amongst those I work with and others who come across my ideas .
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
For me , there was a key moment in my life where i transitioned into becoming a songwriter for others . It wasn’t something I necessarily thought of doing, but the opportunity fell in my lap and I ran with it . I wouldn’t say I had to do it, but if there is 1 thing I know about life is that if something is in front of you there has got to be a reason for it . I wouldn’t change that decision if even I was given the chance to, because it made me who I am today and helped me become a better creative .
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I would say the most rewarding aspect is watching your ideas come to life .
