Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Myeshia Washington. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Myeshia , appreciate you joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
My grandmother was my inspiritation to begin my business. Not only did she teach me to bake, she did so with crippling arthritis. Watching her in pain daily for years before her passing was a reminder to push and make a product that could help those who suffered as well. She raised strong independent daughters, grandchildren that strive for greatness! Her nickname was Peaches and she was born in 1944. I launched Peach 44 LLC on her birthday.
Myeshia , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Myeshia Washington and I am the owner of Peach44 LLC, Dba Peach 44 Creations. I am currently based in Chandler. Az. I started my company on February 12, 2021.
I was born in October of 1981 in Detroit, Michigan. After completing high school, I went to college to major in pre-medicine. I didn’t complete my college studies however I carried my passion for helping people. In more former roles, I was a home health aide, rehab technician and pharmacist tech in my early days. I moved to Arizona in 2007 after a surprise visit to see my brother. With the support of my brother, I took a leap of faith!
In Arizona, I branched into auto insurance, pharmacy benefits and landed in a healthcare role for a health insurance company. During this time of transition, I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression. What started as a routine physical ended with being given pharmaceuticals to manage. That was not my idea of living life. I didn’t want to pop pills daily so I found a better way.
With my anxiety and the benefits marijuana provided me, I was able to find a balance. I took my passion for helping people and combined that with a love for baking to start baking edibles.
My edibles are not the typical cookies and brownies. Instead, I infuse peach cobblers, cheesecakes, pound cakes, cinnamon rolls and so much more without the bitter taste of thc. I am able to give you a product that you can eat discreetly yet still be productive and experience the desired benefit.
I am currently based in Chandler, Az. I am a vendor for multiple events and also take custom orders daily. My current menu includes cheesecakes, apple cobblers, banana pudding, pound cakes and much more. I am available for catering and special order items. In the coming months, savory foods such as lasagnas, street tacos and gumbo will be available!
Okay – so how did you figure out the manufacturing part? Did you have prior experience?
Before starting my company, I researched the plant, how to infuse products and the benefits of the usuage. Through a lot of trial and error, I was able to find a balance to incorporate the thc into my baked items. To save costs, I manufacture my tincture and butter using strains and growers that I trust.
To find the right grower, flower and strains took a lot of time and money. I would visit different dispensaries, search social media, research the strains and best options for the effects I was looking for.
I learned a lot of lessons in this process. I learned that the highest dollar doesn’t always equal the best quality. I have a set of trusted growers that I use for my extraction and specific strains to treat the most common conditions. Needless to say as a medical marijuana card holder, I was able to experience the best and the worse of the industry.
Have you ever had to pivot?
In starting a business and working as a full time employee I have had to make some difficult decisions. To start my business, I needed the funding which my employer was key in accumulating. The long hours and late nights helped launch my company.
Starting a business, I had to learn what was a priority when having a full time job. My business is not a side hustle but a passion. Finding the time and balance to chase a passion can be rough at times. I have passed on promotions and other employer related opportunities to ensure I can devote the time I need to make my business grow. With resilience and determination, I am a testimony that you can do whatever you put your mind to.
