Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Myesha Williams. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Myesha, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Taking a risk, whew! I’ve done my fair share.
I took a risk and went into full-time entrepreneurship July of 2019. It was scary but also felt right if that makes sense. I had just recently relocated back to my hometown after being away for almost 6 years. I had a hard talk with myself that I would take myself serious and go full time (at the time I was shooting weddings and engagements) but good ole’ fear set it and I quickly called in a favor for a position that was a little more secure and just went with it. But I never gave up. I had found myself forced into single motherhood and trying to make the best out of a bizarre situation. Life was giving me the business but I stayed prayed up and focused on the truths in the Bible. I think I was going through a bit of post-partum and couldn’t shake the loneliness I was feeling. I was also not in love with the way I looked and couldn’t help but think that I was alone in this. So I went to facebook, I asked a pretty popular group of Moms if they’d be interested in being my model for the day and I received a ton of responses. This woman came in full of nerves and walked out the most confident person ever. I would soon spend the next two years building my boudoir community into a Queendom of Women supporting each other and encouraging me! I had a heart to heart with God and asked him to fill my calendar with women that couldn’t wait to have this experience. I had recently moved into a studio in the Spring of 2019 and still worked my full time job.I said if “X” amount of women book I’ll quit this job. And don’t you know he kept his promise. I found myself handing in my two week notice after turning down a promotion all in the same week. I’ve never looked back.
Myesha, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Being able to be behind my camera & show women how truly beautiful they are from the inside out drives my ambition to continue to do this! I realized that beauty and practicing self love is important to becoming the woman I strive to be in order to set an example for my children.
It is such an honor to help women on this journey to self love through my artwork and be able to remind them how their loved ones see them. It may be hard to believe that you are seen as BEAUTIFUL, CONFIDENT, WORTHY, and even SEXY!
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The goal has always been freedom. I was side hustling most of my daughters life. And when I suddenly found myself a single parent I realized how precious time was. I took time for granted. I decided that when I began working for myself I would create a life that is pleasing to me. I was afforded this luxury very early on in my boudoir career and have been able to work with at least two clients per week while maintaining a traditional life at home.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is seeing the shift happen right in front of me. As Im shooting I see insecurities melt away and confidence grow. I see nervous, unsure about whats gonna happen women become vixens right in front of me. I see women start to peel the layers of titles off their backs and realize they are more than deserving, more than worthy and more than enough! I see my clients explore the meaning of true beauty while also accepting that she isn’t perfect!
