We were lucky to catch up with Myeisha Nichols recently and have shared our conversation below.
Myeisha , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
Being successful means you have to get comfortable with not always winning. You have to know what losing feels like. So you can be grounded. The success that I have comes from pulling myself up after losing multiple battles. I gained my strength slowly but surely. I also stayed focused on my goals and true to myself that is what made me successful.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a makeup artist, photographer, and now a content creator. I began my work professionally in 2011 and then my business grew significantly in 2021. I am able to listen to exactly what my clients need and map out their vision. I am most proud of that I can provide multiple services. I look at my work as art. The photos that I capture are portraits. The content that I create for businesses or influencers showcases ways that will interest their customers. I enjoy watching business owners grow from the content I was able to provide.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source for new clients for me has always been word-of-mouth recommendations. I have a fantastic circle of friends and family. My name has been spoken in rooms I didn’t even know existed. I will always be grateful to those that recommend me.
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Absolutely. Photography and makeup have been a side hustle from 2011-2021. I pivoted my brand so that I could have a full-time business. It all started when I would have to turn down opportunities because I had to work my corporate job. Then, I began making just as much if not more money on my side hustle. So when my corporate job became stressful and overwhelming, I decided it was time for a change. The first milestone is that I set a sales goal for myself last year. This year I was able almost to double it. I am sure, I will turn my brand into a 6-figure business by next year. I mapped out a plan of goals and accomplishments for my brand and I was able to meet each one.
