Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mychal Frelix. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mychal, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s jump to the end – what do you want to be remembered for?
Growing up in St. Paul, Minnesota, I have always felt a deep sense of pride and responsibility for my community. As I reflect on the legacy I hope to build, four fundamental values come to mind: respect, prosperity, hope, and giving back.
Respect is at the core of everything I do. Embracing the diversity within my community and treating others with kindness and understanding has been a driving force in my life. When we respect one another, I believe we create a harmonious and inclusive environment where everyone feels valued and heard.
Prosperity is not just about personal success; it’s about lifting others up. I have been driven to create opportunities for those around me to thrive. Whether through mentorship, supporting local businesses, or advocating for social and racial justice, I am dedicated to contributing to the prosperity of my community.
Hope is a powerful force that has guided me through challenging times. I strive to be a source of inspiration and positivity for others, encouraging them to believe in a brighter future and to pursue their dreams relentlessly. We empower others to overcome obstacles and achieve their goals by sharing hope.
Giving back has always been a calling in my heart. I recognize the privilege and blessings in my life and am committed to sharing those blessings with others. From volunteering to contributing to charitable causes, I find great joy in positively impacting the lives of those in need.
As I envision my legacy, I see a tapestry of compassion, generosity, and empowerment. I want to be remembered as someone who made a difference in the lives of many, leaving a positive mark on my community and inspiring others to follow the path of respect, prosperity, hope, and giving back.
St. Paul, Minnesota, is not just my hometown; it’s a place that has shaped me and given me a sense of purpose. I hope that my legacy will resonate within its streets and in the hearts of its residents, reminding them that together, we can create a brighter and more compassionate world for generations to come.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
During my undergraduate years, I took on the incredible challenge of balancing 2 to 3 jobs alongside a full course load. One vivid memory stands out when I worked as a supervisor at a retail coffee chain while interning at a local radio station. To add to the challenge, my car broke down during this time.
Instead of succumbing to the difficulty of the situation, I found the determination within myself. For an entire week, without hesitation, I rode my bike over 30 miles each day to fulfill my work obligations. The journey to and from my house to work was challenging, but I was committed to meeting my responsibilities.
Some may have considered calling in sick an option, but that thought never crossed my mind. I firmly believe in the importance of being reliable and committed to my work. Despite the hurdles, I knew that showing up and giving my best each day was essential for my personal growth and the success of the teams I was a part of.
This experience taught me valuable lessons in resilience, perseverance, discipline, and the power of a strong work ethic. It reinforced my belief that challenges are growth opportunities, and no obstacle is insurmountable with the right attitude and determination.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
“The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck,” by Mark Manson, has helped me to build a transformative entrepreneurial and leadership mindset. I have learned to adopt five counter-intuitive values that have redefined my approach to business and life:
Taking Full Responsibility: I now recognize the importance of taking responsibility for my actions and decisions as an entrepreneur. Understanding that my success is shaped by how I respond to challenges, I have become more proactive and empowered in navigating the business landscape. This sense of accountability has strengthened my relationships with my team, investors, and customers, fostering trust and credibility.
Embracing Uncertainty: Rather than fearing the unknown, I have learned to embrace uncertainty as an opportunity for growth and innovation. By remaining open to new ideas and diverse perspectives, I have cultivated a culture of creativity within my ventures, which has led to a competitive edge and adaptability in the ever-changing market.
Learning from Failure: My perspective on failure has shifted significantly. Instead of viewing setbacks as personal flaws, I see them as stepping stones to success. Embracing failure and extracting valuable lessons from mistakes has made me more resilient and better equipped to navigate the challenges of entrepreneurship.
Handling Rejection Gracefully: Facing rejection with composure has become a strength. As an entrepreneur, I encounter numerous obstacles, but I have learned to embrace rejection as a natural part of the journey. I use negative feedback as an opportunity to refine my ideas and strategies while also remaining receptive to constructive criticism and alternative viewpoints.
