We recently connected with Myah Brown and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Myah, thanks for joining us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
For several years I had the idea I wanted to start a business. I wanted to create something that would create generational wealth, catapult other business ventures, and break generational curses. I just wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. As I thought about businesses that I could be passionate about I landed on Jewelry.
Jewelry has always been apart of my personality and I attribute that to my mothers love of jewelry. Once I settled on the business, I began researching the how. I reached out to people I knew that had launched businesses and asked all the questions I could think of. From there I made a plan and asked myself how I could make this “me”.
To save money I did everything myself. Filing for my LLC, finding wholesalers, photography, social media, website, etc. It was and is overwhelming but it allowed me to really commit because it was my time that was invested.
Starting a business requires so much planning and creating, again, it was very overwhelming and a lot is trial and error. Once I launched I had to very quickly go back to the drawing board because I wasn’t as prepared as I thought. Since my first launch I have had to continue to evolve and learn.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Myah Symone Boutique is an online jewelry store that provides curated collections of earrings, rings and necklaces at an affordable price.
I love to accessorize and switch up the pieces I wear frequently. Whether it is statement earrings, a simple necklace, or your everyday hoop, it can get costly to find well made jewelry. Myah Symone solves that issue. You can have style and reliability in your accessories. We are the middle ground between expensive fine jewelry and cheap costume jewelry.
Bi-montlhy I curate a collection of jewelry. Cognizant of the current trends and focused on the craftsmanship I work with wholesalers to ensure the pieces I choose are affordable. The feeling of style without the stress of cost is euphoric.
When you look your best, you feel your best. Myah Symone Boutique is committed to being a part of that relationship for our customers.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Whew! Continuing to put one foot in front of the other and not shut down is my story. When I first launched in 2019 I was constantly sold out of items, I had consistent sales and the boutique was growing fast. Then Covid hit and I am still trying to get back to where I was. I had to go back to the drawing board and get creative.
When I relaunched again in 2022 I didn’t make even half the sales I made when I first launched. I’ve decided not to quit, I feel this is really my purpose. I am resilient and will keep putting one foot in front of the other until I cant any longer.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
After having my daughter in 2021 I had to pivot how i looked at my business and the priority it had in my “new” life. I struggled with finding balance and found myself question if I could really do this.
I had to get honest with myself and start to set intentional goals and routines. What I was doing before wasn’t working now, so I had to switch it up.
