We recently connected with Mya Pham and have shared our conversation below.
Mya, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
Honestly, I have built my clientele up by being myself. In a world full of pretenders and followers, I have always strive to be different. My personality alone will make you feel like you’ve known me forever. I made my first celebrity client by word of mouth. I build amazing relationships with my clients, so never know who they know. Paying attention to details will differentiate you. And the service I provide has always been top tier!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
So the story goes…. Being a teen mom, I had to figure out a way to take care of my son and myself. I started doing nails at 16. I didn’t have a sense of direction at the time, I just knew I had to make a living. Fast forward, during the shut down for the pandemic, one of my long time client really pushed me to start my mobile nail business. I was a bit afraid of the unknown but I have always had faith that whatever I do will prosper. That’s when I had the courage to started my own business. I already had the clientele, just needed to implement a plan. God really took the wheel and I’ve been working for myself now since 2020. One thing I would say is if you want to start, just start. There’s never a perfect time or right time to start. Just do it anyways and the fruits of your labor will reward you!
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn and relearn being in control of my own time. I have always worked for people and was always on their time. I had to learn to delegate my time and have a work/life balance since I’m a mother and a business owner. Once you go through the entrepreneurship journey, you learn as you grow.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I knew I had to do something different when I was home for 2 weeks during the pandemic shut down, doing nothing. I’m a busy body person. Staying inside and not being able to work was not it for me. So once I started my business, everything fell into place. Building relationships is so important. Words of mouth was what really carried me during the shut down.
