We recently connected with Mya Banks and have shared our conversation below.
Mya, appreciate you joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Coming up with the name of the of my brand came rather naturally, its was just a matter of how I wanted it to come across. As most know anyone that wears glasses, are given the name ‘four eyes’. For me, I always saw it as compliment rather than insult if you will. Being a innovated individual, my thought process was that when something is explained for an idea of my own or other people– I can envision it and can start to build on an idea of how what I have in my head and being that I wear glasses, I would look at it as having four eyes just put the vision in perspective. Hence, the name aFoeyedVision–and with me being a southern girl, I thought it flowed better as ‘Foe’ vs ‘Four’.

Mya, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For those that do not know me, my name is Mya Banks. I am a Greensboro native currently residing in Durham, NC. By day, I work as an analyst in the Information Technology space–by night, and sometimes by day contingent on the day, I am continuing to sharpen my skills and provide services as a photographer and videographer in content creation for family, friends, and those referred. In 2014/2015, I developed a knack for being able to put photos and videos together to create compilations to music to reflect moments in life. From there, the hobby of photography came into fruition as more than just taking good pics for friends but being able to take a photo and/or video and enhance it to express the same story but with more exposure to stand out. What I think sets me apart from others is the ability to be innovative with the smallest details and being able to make it grow and let the product/content speak for itself. As I am embarking on new opportunities in this space, I am most proud of the reception received from the people most important and for the people I have met along this journey that in some way, form or fashion have supported what I am building to and and being able to have fun with it all. I want people to know that they can trust me with their visions/ideas and know that they will be supported in every way to ensure their vision is seen and understood.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Social media has played a great part and has been a useful tool in order to share my work and for followers–new and old, to see the type of photography I have done and can do. In addition, attending events in my area for networking, meet and greets, such as the BwnGirlsBrunch [ BrwnGirlsCollaborative ] which has been essentials to knowing and collaborating with creatives from my hometown and in my current backyard [Durham].

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The rewarding aspect of being a creative is the response received in process or once a project or shoot is completed. When the vision is produced successfully for the client, showing appreciation on social media–it is rewarding for me because that just shows that the persistence paid off and having people in your life that recognize the talent and want to be apart of it. Although, although every experience may not have been as successful–even to the point where I feel like I failed on my part, it is also rewarding to have friends and family that are fellow creatives, encourage you keep pushing is the major reward from me and my hope is that it continues to keep the creative juices flowing
