We recently connected with Muhkenzy and have shared our conversation below.
Muhkenzy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I’ve always knew music had to be apart of my life in some way just from childhood. I started singing at a young age just around the house with my mom growing up and then it progressed on to family reunions, daycare gatherings. The moment however I knew I could be creative was with my Uncle Marcus (who has since passed on). He was a rapper with one of his best friends and he would teach me the words and have me sing Choruses with him and it made me feel included and that I had a gift.
Muhkenzy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Mackenzie but also my artist name is Muhkenzy. I’m originally from Fayetteville, North Carolina but moved to Marietta, Ga from Newark, De (definitely traveled near and far) I am a R&B Singer/Songwriter and performer in Atlanta and surrounded areas. I started performing Atlanta actually looking through Instagram at open mics in the area and came across an event featured at ApacheXLR called “SoulxTales” I asked if I could perform and was given the opportunity to showcase my talent and I have been on a whirlwind journey ever since! I’ve been performing since November of 2023 and it truly has been such an honor to be able to build my brand and meet such amazing people. My brand is truly built on passion and love and I feel that it shows through my performances!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding would have to be for me seeing the responses to my voice from my friends and audiences! I sing cover songs at a lot of my performances (I’m currently in the works of creating my first EP) and I pick songs that remind you of moments in life and so seeing those people feel their groove and just feel the nostalgia is so amazing to me.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I connected with an amazing Videographer who found me at a performance who after doing our own business together (Melanin Showcase 2024) he actually came on as my personal videographer and helped me create an online Resume of performance reels and content that I felt started to get people to see me.
