We recently connected with MsNickee Mack and have shared our conversation below.
MsNickee, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Growing up there we not many representations of ME in the industry. Women who looked like me were told we were not beautiful, we were not industry standard, we were never given the opportunity to be seen. I saw young girls looking for inspiration, looking for someone or something to look up to and they started turning to videos, tv and magazines that created an unrealistic fantasy of what beauty was. MY MISSION was to create a space where real women, with real bodies, in real life could fall back in love with themselves, build their confidence, show them that beauty comes from inside and if they wanted to work in the industry, we could develop the rest. It doesn’t take a young skinny body to sell a car, shampoo, notebook paper, etc. We are not the picture-perfect carbon copies that the media and magazines have painted us to be and that it is ok to be YOU! MY GOAL was to build an agency that represented all walks of life and give them a platform to showcase their talents no matter what they are and develop them so they could become experts in their lane.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got into the industry because I always loved fashion, I just happened to always be curvy. Once I saw how the industry didn’t see curvy as beautiful and stylish I wanted to change that. I wanted to help women who looked like me feel confident and strong, so I started to learn how to love me, and found other women who felt just like me. So long story short i began to teach other women how to feel beautiful on the inside, trained them and developed their runway skills and built and agency that would represent them, not discriminate against them. I also took photography classes through Nikon so that I could shoot them with a creative eye, because we kept running in to photographers that didn’t like shooting curvy women, so I learned how!! I went a step further and became a makeup artist as well because i wanted to learn how to enhance beauty not alter or mask it, I wanted to represent Real Beauty, Real Life! What sets me apart from other industry professionals is that I truly believe that all sizes are beautiful and deserve to be represented in this industry, and I learned how to develop that in talent! I am proud of the fact that I HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE in a lot of women’s lives and they many are recognizable forces in this industry! I want people to know that at Diva Day International there is no judgement, we help you to learn how to trust the process and progress through it. We accept all sizes and if we find that one part of the industry isnt for you we help you find the part that it! You may not be cut out for the runway, but you may have excellent people skills which we can fine tune in to red carpet hosting, the potential is unlimited. It’s called development for a reason, and we get you where you are supposed to be! For so many years the girl who wasn’t a size 2 was frowned upon, and instead of complaining about it I BECAME THE CHANGE I WANTED TO SEE IN THE INDUSTRY!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
When the pandemic hit, all booking stopped, the world simply shut down and honestly, I was stuck and depressed but not for long, I have never been the person to sit and cry and do nothing. So, I began to take some classes as my fallback profession is therapy. I never didn’t anything the traditional way, so I started taking Reiki classes and became a Reiki Master began to center myself and release stress and triggers. I began to heal my mental from old and new traumas and saw a way to pivot my business through the clarity. I started booking virtual runway courses, development bootcamps, brand ambassadors’ trainings and things began to pick up. Virtual fashion shows started, and I began to get booked as the host of them and providing models for small virtual fashion shows. I am an author of a fashion production book, so people came to me to find a way to do show virtually. Not only did that side of the business start to pick up but so did the Reiki side of the business, people were truly looking to heal and get back to themselves and needed help. As a psychology, and sociology major my background is in therapy, so this was right up my alley. I started the Zenergy Room Experience which is a holistic healing wellness spa for people who are into crystals, alignment, healing and a true spiritual journey. My life has changed tremendously, and I am forever grateful and thankful for the strength i found in me to pivot and bounce back. I was out of work for over 8months with no income coming in and still had bills, as a 1099 gig worker nothing worked out for me through the pandemic, so I had to GRIND AND MAKE SOMETHING SHAKE and I DID!!
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I always send my clients and models inspirational quotes, I check in on them, I do wellness checks, I let them know i care and they have a safe space to vent with no judgement. I always send out private sale perks to repeat customers. I celebrate repeat clients and customers through social media all the time. Happy customers and client’s word of mouth is priceless!
