We recently connected with Ms. T With the Tea and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ms. T thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I have always been interested in social media for a while, but I was nervous about the idea of being in the spotlight t to pursue a career on social media with the fear that no one would enjoy my content. Another fear I had was not having much experience with public speaking and interacting with people in person or virtually.
After debating with myself for about 5 years about putting myself out and making my first video, I decided to proceed with the decision of putting myself out in social media May 2020. My first video on youtube was one of the most nervous experiences of my life. I had no experience of how to make the video “flow” and make sense. Since making my first video, the process has become easier, and I now help newer content creators begin their journey by running a livestream Monday-Friday at 9:15am est on Youtube. During the livestream, I pick one topic we focus on and answer comments in the comment section. This livestream is turning out to be a great success and very helpful.
Ms. T , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Ms. T with the Tea. I am a content creator on YouTube, Instagram and TikTok. My social media is all about funny skits to put a smile on your face when coming to my platforms. I also have a morning livestream that airs on YouTube Monday thru Friday @ 9:15am est. on the livestream, I enjoy interacting with supporters who have questions about how to become a content creator as well as overcoming nervousness. Being a content creator has taught me a lot about organization and the art of public speaking. I feel one of the most difficult tasks with being a content creator would have to be networking and pushing out your social media. When you start off as a content Creator, no one knows who you are so you have to start from the beginning and figure out how to find an audience with no instructions..
My biggest accomplishment would have to be the drive of not giving up. There were times when I may have experienced writers block, bad videos, and lack of public speaking skills, but one thing I have realized is that the more you put yourself out on front street the more you learn about your strengths and weaknesses and how to overcome them.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Some of the resources I wish I would have known more about would be editing, the art of public speaking, and the ability to speak to someone in the same field as myself to recieve pointers and advice on how to network and expand my social media. Starting a social media on Youtube, Instagram, and TikTok was one of the best decisions of my life. I greatly enjoy working for myself and interacting with new people on a daily basis, but I did not enjoy coming into this lifestyle without knowing absolutely anything. One thing people fail to realize is that being a content creator takes a lot of trial and error along with patience. Going viral does not happen over night. Many people may see a v10-15 minute video on youtube and think this career is so simple. What most do not see is all the editing, lighting, preparing what to say, creating intro and outro’s for the videos and etc. Most videos take about an hour or more to actually make so you definitely need to have patience in this field of work.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
A goal that is pushing me to continue this life on social media is the drive to pursue a career on social media full time. I enjoy my morning livestreams on Youtube speaking to people on a daily basis, and love making skits on TikTok that is finally starting to grow. In the future, I would like to expand myself and do more in the community by possibly doing public speaking and speak to more upcoming creators about the journey of being a content creator. I would also like the possibility of writting a book or offering training classes to help more content creators who are serious about becoming a content creator and this way of life.
