Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mrs. Tish Mrs. Angie. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Mrs. Tish thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
Mrs. Angie came up with the idea to open a daycare because she did not have anyone to watch her kids back in California. She was away from family and friend and did not know a lot of people in California. So she began watching neighbors kids along with her own and really came to love it! Mrs. Tish decided to open a daycare when she had her first child, Tylan. It was extremely difficult to find a quality childcare center., so she I said I would open my own!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Mrs. Angie and Mrs. Tish met because Mrs. Angie was Tylan’s Toddler teacher at a childcare center that Mrs. Tish worked at 5 years prior. We both wanted to open a daycare, so we decided to partner up. Mrs. Angie left the daycare and started her in home daycare center before we opened ours together.
Mrs. Angie has 25 plus years in the childcare industry and Mrs. Tish has 12 plus years in the childcare industry. Together we make a dynamic duo because we are passionate about providing quality childcare to our community.
Prepping for Excellence Academy LLC is a quality rated and license childcare center located in Mableton, GA. We make sure that our scholars are prepped for excellence and find pleasure in providing the best childhood preparation and lifelong learning experience. We overcame several obstacles during opening our childcare center, a lot of which were unexpected. We scarificed money, time, and tears but we never gave up on our dream! To look back now 3 years later, surviving a pandemic, we are still standing. What sets us apart is that we genuinely care about our families. It’s not just about playing here, we make sure our scholars are learning, that eat hot meals daily, and we build relationships with our students and parents. Every year we have our annual, food drive, hat, glove, and coat drive and donate all donations to a non-profit. We are so thankful for our dedicated teacher Miss Ma’Kiya who has been with us for over 2 years!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
A time when in our journey that illustrates our resilience was during the Covid-19 Pandemic. While so many other childcare centers were closing their doors, we had faith in the Lord, prayed, and trusted God. We closed for two months to develop our game plan to address the Pandemic head on. Before we re-opened we deep cleaned, made sure we had protective supplies like masks, disinfectant spray and wipes, gloves, and etc. We them held a meeting with our parents via zoom and explained how we would now operate to keep students, staff, and parents safe from the Covid-19 virus. Although all of our students did not return, over 90% of them did and we provided vitual learning to our After school scholars for a entire school year! During this time our center excelled and really made a great name within our community.
Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Since we believed in ourselves 110% we were all in. We did everything out of our own personal pockets. We did not get a loan and our husbands were a big support to us both. We both left our 9-5pm careers and took the leap of Faith.
