We were lucky to catch up with Mosheh Ellison recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mosheh, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
The first time I knew I wanted to pursue an artistic career path started at a very young age around 5-6 years old. I was spending a weekend with a cousin of mine who happens to be around the same age as me. He had choir rehearsal and I remember being in awe just seeing and hearing the choir sing while wearing their robes. It’s like the simmering fire that was already there in me had been doused in gasoline and it wanted to consume everything! It made the desire to sing out even more prominent. So much so I told my mother I wanted to live with my cousin after that weekend. She had no idea it was all because I wanted to sing. We still laugh about it until this day.
Mosheh, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Mosheh Ellison. I am a Philadelphia native and an overall multifaceted creative being. Creating all forms of art is my purpose and joy. Well, for starters I am a singer and songwriter that goes by the stage name Sōlwata. A rebrand of my previous artist name “Xander” under which I released my first EP project called “Subconscious” still available on all streaming platforms.
Sōlwata is derived from “Sol” which means sun. And “Wata” from “water” a primordial entity or form in which all life has stemmed from. Sōlwata has a unique new R&B Neo soul sound that induces cellular activation and healing. Our intention with our art is to move and stir the scared waters that run deep within us all. It is music that leaves you feeling good and lingers when it’s over.
In addition to being a independent music artist. I am the author of the children’s book “I Love My Name” available nationwide. A book on overcoming bullying and standing proud in who you are. This book was a healing gift to my inner child. Born from personal experience with bullying myself. I knew had to share my truth as a message to help combat bullying while promoting self love, acceptance and appreciation within our youth. The children are indeed our future. There has to be more conscious collective efforts that reinsure our youth grow up learning the value of compassion, forgiveness and love. All of which is far more valuable than material gains and possessions. For these are things that will get them further in life. It will also improve the quality of life for themselves and others they will meet along the way. I would have to say I’m most proud of my book for sure!
I have also built an YouTube community, close to 15k members from my channel called “Moments with Moe”. Moments with Moe was created to be a safe space for community to come together and discuss and showcase different topics surrounding lifestyle and spirituality. Along with an array of reaction, comedy, story time and cooking videos. The reason on creating the channel in the first place was to be a outlet for me to just be me. I also wanted to show people that as long as you be true to you the right people will find you and that’s exactly what happened with Moments with Moe. So create and share you skills, gifts and talents because it’s safe for you to do so and you never know how things will unfold and open up for you. It’ll almost seem magical!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist or creative is knowing that something that is birthed through you and your story, no matter how you would label said experience, it can turn around and be a blissing to someone who may have experienced something similar or may experience it in the future. Just knowing you made some type of positive affect in someone’s life is the best reward to me.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson a had to unlearn was that you have to do it all by yourself. I’ve always been an independent individual and got use to doing everything myself. The more things started to grow and expand the more I saw I needed a team and support. There just isn’t enough time in a day to do everything all the time and some task just need to be delegated. Learning its okay to do so and knowing you don’t have to prove anything you do to anyone other than yourself. And that life doesn’t have to be a one man band show. Not to mention having different perspectives and insight on different subject matters is such an invaluable asset to have.
