We recently connected with Moschè and have shared our conversation below.
Moschè, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
When I was a kid, seeing Michael Jackson perform on TV, was it for me. I was standing there with my mouth open on the floor, thinking to myself… This is what I want to do. This is what I want to be.
Moschè , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Moschè, trombonist and recording artist. Coined by the Kennedy Center as the “Jazz Funk Luminary”.
My journey started with me playing on the streets of DC with my family band (Brass Connection Band). People loved us, we were being booked for gigs and getting contracts with professional sports arenas, on TV and in newspapers. I continued to grow from there.
I’ve been very fortunate to work with a lot of people I’ve always looked up to in the industry like Dave Chappelle, Kim Burrell, Fred Yonnet, Erykah Badu, Wale, Anthony Brown and Group Therapy and the list goes on.
What sets me apart is though I’m not a vocalist, you can understand exactly what I’m saying and you can feel it.
I am most proud that I am still genuine after overcoming all of the obstacles that come with creating your own lane in an established industry.
Be grateful for every opportunity and approach it with the same discipline and respect you would if it was your dream opportunity (That’s what I do).
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part about being a creative is just being able to create something out of nothing and living in my God-given talent. It is very rewarding, many people aren’t able to do what they love or even discover their talent.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
There are many books that I have read but the most impactful ones were “Well Being” and “Happy for no reason”. Though they’re not directly related to my type of work, it’s extremely important to be well in your life mentally, emotionally and physically. Being whole and knowing who you are is important, things don’t always go the way you think they should and you will learn that failure is a part of the process not the end of your story.
