We recently connected with Moriah Quinn and have shared our conversation below.
Moriah, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
Ansel Adams is a valued hero and the reason I decided to become a conservation photographer. I have a passion for marine biology and wanted to help protect the oceans and all nature on the planet. Growing up, my family had some Ansel Adams prints of Yosemite in the house, which exposed me to his work. Seeing the stunning photos he took and the influence they had in creating some of the first national parks made me realize the power of change that photography has. Knowing that photography can inspire people, governments and be a tool for conservation efforts, I felt that this was the right path for me to make the largest impact in protecting our planet. I studied Visual Journalism in college and now focus my work around bringing awareness and inspiring change to all that view my photos.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Moriah Quinn, a conservation-focused landscape and underwater photographer based out of California. I combined my love for protecting our oceans and landscapes with my passion for photography to bring awareness and inspire people about the wonders of our world. The current products and services I offer are Fine Art prints and merchandise, both sold online, at art shows/markets, as well as capturing editorial stories for magazines. Outside of these main services and products, I also do product and lifestyle photography.
The main element I would want potential clients and followers to know is that I have a deep passion for protecting wildlife and nature, and this extends into so many aspects of my life. I do trash clean-ups on trails and beaches, I try to minimize my plastic and single-use waste, and, to live sustainably. To me, it’s not just about taking beautiful photos but limiting my footprint and making the world around me better in as many ways as I can.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being an artist is getting the chance to share my photography with other people and seeing the joy, wonder, and happiness they get from viewing my work. Whether it be epic sunsets in the mountains or underwater wildlife adventures and everything in between, people can experience moments, places, and wildlife that some may never see in person. My work can also bring back memories for people who have traveled to places like National Parks, and every time they look at my photos, they get reminded of their wonderful trip. All these aspects are very rewarding for me as an artist, and I truly enjoy connecting with people about my photography.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Since I was young, I have dreamed of being involved in Sea Turtle conservation, and that passion drove me to pursue underwater photography and photojournalism as my career path to accomplish this goal. Now, my love of sea turtles has opened me up to the whole ocean, full of various wonders that are incredible to witness and photograph for others to enjoy. I have a strong pull towards the coral reef ecosystems and want to focus as much of my editorial work as possible around these stories. Whether snorkeling or scuba diving, encountering sea turtles in the wild is a dream come true every time.
