We were lucky to catch up with Moriah King recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Moriah, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The reason I create, is to inspire. I’m a creative person and I feel like I’ve been inspired all my life seeing different artworks, and I know how that made me feel. I want to give that feeling back to the world with my art. I want people to take my art and be able to relate to it in many different ways. Art can be many different things and has many different meanings, and that drives me. You’re not just put in a box with art. It’s a form of expression. I want to help and inspire people to express themselves, and I believe I can do that through my work. So I don’t really have a story. It’s really a feeling I want to put back into the world.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Moriah King and I am a videographer, editor and photographer. Since I was little, I always loved capturing memories and looking at all the old VHS tapes my parents kept around, especially the photo albums. But I also had another passion, which was dance, and for the longest that is what I wanted to pursue so I moved to Los Angeles. While living there, I found myself wanting to be a part of the camera crew rather than go to an audition, and I haven’t looked back since. I now have my own business that I started during the COVID-19 pandemic. For the past 2-3 years I have learned a lot through my craft and have gotten to work with a lot of inspiring artists and brands. I mainly direct and/or DP music videos/visualizers, advertisement for brands, and dance concepts. My favorite part is being able to make cool animations within my editing style for each project to make them stand out in their own creative way. I am most proud of the fact that I fall more in love with this art everyday and that I am able to create and connect with the world.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is being able to connect with other creative minds. We all have different perspectives and outlooks on life and it can be inspiring. I think inspiration is a big part of our work, And it is very rewarding to feel some type of inspiration in the world we live in and create something beautiful with it.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I believe during the COVID-19 pandemic, I really had to pivot my business. I ended up having to move back home to Florida from Los Angelos and I started editing projects more that were filmed elsewhere and had to travel more to DP certain ones. Most of the artists I worked with came from the LA community so I had to start building myself up in the South Florida community. As that was happening, I started falling more in love with editing as a whole and wanted to expand that part of my business and offer those services as just an editor as well. I then got more into photography, wanting to explore more within the creative community around me. It was a challenge at first moving from Los Angelos, but I also think it helped me pivot my business in a way where I expanded my creative services because I was out of my comfort zone.
