We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Moriah Holland a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Moriah thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?
At Lazy Rogue, I believe that exceptional customer service is the cornerstone of any successful business. Making each client feel valued and appreciated is a priority. I firmly believe that every client should feel valued and that interpersonal connections have tremendous influence here at Lazy Rogue. One particularly recent tale concerns a client getting ready for their upcoming vacation. Within 14 days, they desperately required 20 custom dreadlock extensions. Average time from order to finish is typically 3-4 weeks. Realizing how important this was, I put forth a lot of effort to make sure the order was finished on schedule. The customer was ecstatic, saying the extensions were produced quickly, beautifully, and even better than she had anticipated.
A customer who required extensions for a wedding is another example. Her ideal dreadlocks would have been the exact color match, with extra flowing ends. Her comments showed that I had taken the time to make sure every little aspect was ideal: “These are just BEAUTIFUL! The extra flowy ends were exactly what I was wanting and the color was spot-on.”
A loyal customer who has purchased multiple sets from me over the years complimented the ongoing quality and communication, pointing out that Lazyrogue consistently meet their high expectations. The degree of customization and care for detail is what distinguishes Lazy Rogue and adds value to every customer’s experience.
Giving a sincere thank you makes a lasting impression and encourages loyalty in a world where transactions might seem impersonal. Every encounter I have at Lazy Rogue demonstrates my dedication to making my customers feel beautiful, appreciated, and respected.
Highlighting Customer Feedback
My customers’ feedback reflects my commitment to excellence and personalized service. Here are some of the glowing reviews I’ve received:

• A customer on Mar 26, 2024: “Great communication, and took the time to reassess the color upon my request. They are beautiful and the color is on point!”
• A customer on Feb 29, 2024: “This is not my first time ordering from her, and probably won’t be the last! I love her dreads! They are so soft, unlike some others which can be stiff. She’s also very nice and easy to work with!”

• A customer on Jun 24, 2021: “Exactly the color I asked for. Love quality. Will order again.”
Showing customers you appreciate them doesn’t require grand gestures; it’s about paying attention to the little details that matter most to them. At Lazy Rogue, my commitment to customer appreciation is evident in every interaction, in turn, my hopes are that my client base feels valued, heard, and cherished.

Moriah, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Hello! I’m Moriah, the passionate owner and creator behind LazyRogue, a small business dedicated to crafting custom human hair deadlock extensions. For the past 10 years, I’ve poured my heart and soul into my work, and I’m proud to say that I’ve maintained a 5-star rating for the majority of that time.
My journey began with a deep love for unique and personal hairstyles. What started as a creative outlet and something I made for myself in my teenage years soon became a fulfilling career beyond what I could have imagined. Each extension I have created is a reflection of the individuality of my clients. I take great care in crafting each custom piece to ensure it perfectly matches their style, color, and personality. Upon completion of custom sets approval photos are always sent to clients before their sets ship out.
The heart of my work lies in the attention to detail. I’m dedicated to making sure every client feels truly unique and heard. with the approval photos come the options for any changes. I listen closely to their needs, understand their vision, and use my expertise to bring it to life with precision and creativity. I am always asking questions to make sure we both have a clear understanding of what the client is going for, I am always striving for very clear communication. The satisfaction of my clients, seeing them thrilled with their custom extensions, is what drives me every day. I absolutely love making my clients feel vibrant and beautiful.
What sets LazyRogue apart is not just the quality of my work, but the genuine connection I build with each client. This isn’t just about hair, it’s about creating something that makes people feel confident and unique. Hair is and has always been such an important part of the human condition.
I’m immensely proud of the relationships I’ve built over the years and the positive impact I’ve had on my clients’ lives. For those who are new to LazyRogue, know that every piece I create is made with love, care, and a commitment to excellence. Your satisfaction and happiness are at the core of everything I do as I would not have my business without my clients.
With warmth and gratitude,
~Moriah

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Navigating the pandemic was a challenging time for everyone, but for me, it was particularly intense. Running a small business, ‘Lazy Rogue,’ was already a demanding task. Add to that the responsibilities of becoming a mother in the midst of a global crisis, and you have a recipe for an incredibly trying period.
As a sole owner of my small Etsy shop, Lazyrogue, all my sales are conducted online. This allowed me to continue serving my clients even during lockdowns, but it also meant I was navigating the complexities of an evolving situation alone. The pandemic brought unexpected obstacles: supply chain disruptions, new laws, changes in customer needs, and the pressure to adapt swiftly to ensure my business remained functional.
Amidst this chaos, I was also preparing to welcome my daughter into the world. The weight of these simultaneous life changes starting a new chapter as a mother while ensuring my business continued to thrive tested my resilience and determination like never before. My days were a blend of managing orders, troubleshooting issues, and preparing for motherhood.
Despite the challenges, I found solace and strength in the work I do. Crafting custom deadlock extensions and connecting with clients online became my anchor. Each project was not just a transaction but a personal commitment to my clients’ needs and a reflection of my dedication to my craft as it also ensured a better future for my daughter.
Becoming a mother during such a tumultuous time gave me a renewed sense of purpose and perspective. It reminded me why I started Lazyrogue in the first place: to create something meaningful, to solve problems with a personal touch, and to bring a bit of joy into the lives of a few people. I truly believe in the power of positivity.
Through it all, I’ve maintained a 5-star rating for the majority of the last decade, a testament to my resilience and the unwavering support of my loyal clients. I’m incredibly proud of how far I’ve come and grateful for the opportunity to continue doing what I love, even in the face of such unprecedented challenges.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
One resource that has profoundly influenced my entrepreneurial journey is Alan Watts’ lecture titled “Do What You Love,” which I discovered when I was 16. At the time, I was working on my own dreadlocks, and this lecture resonated deeply with me. Watts’ philosophy on pursuing what genuinely excites and fulfills us, rather than conforming to conventional paths or societal expectations, was a game-changer for me.
In the lecture, Watts discusses the importance of aligning our work with our passions and the intrinsic joy that comes from engaging in work that we truly love. His words were a beacon of clarity during a formative period in my life. This perspective was pivotal in my decision to start my own business at 18. It wasn’t just about creating a means of earning a living; it was about building something that I could deeply connect with and find joy in.
Watts’ emphasis on doing what you love and allowing that passion to drive you has been a constant source of inspiration. His philosophy encouraged me to embrace my individuality and creativity, which is at the core of my work with hair and custom deadlock extensions. I strive to infuse each creation with personal touch and care, ensuring that it resonates with each client’s unique style and needs.
The impact of Watts’ lecture extends beyond just starting my business; it has shaped my approach to entrepreneurship and management. It reinforced the idea that success is not solely measured by financial gain but by the satisfaction and fulfillment derived from doing what you love. This mindset has been instrumental in maintaining the high standards and dedication that have defined my business over the past decade.
