Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Moriah Boone. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Moriah, appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I wish almost every day that I had started my creative career sooner.
I am blessed to have the opportunities that I do now and absolutely nothing excites me more than delving into a multidimensional character or acting out an intense scene. I only wish that I had remained true to my younger self from the beginning and pushed for more exposure to the industry early on.
The concept of loving what you do has become increasingly popular in the last two decades and I would even venture to say that as a result, many of us millennial creatives have been able to find our bliss! Unfortunately, this concept had a tendency to fall on the deaf ears of my caretakers when I was young. I was all but forbidden to pursue acting or modeling and was instead re-routed towards more “practical” career paths.
Although it may sound clique, I would encourage any young creative to pursue that bliss relentlessly-no matter what your superiors say. You get one life.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I am a model and actress from Arizona who spends the majority of her time in the City of Angels!
When I was merely 17, I had my senior photos done and almost immediately started doing modeling work in Arizona-a local commercial here, a swim campaign there. Simply put, it was fun and I wasn’t taking it seriously at the time.
I even lost sight of it for a short time whilst I pursued a pre-veterinary education. Soon, I graduated saddled with a massive amount of debt and a degree that I wasn’t even certain I wanted so I took a leap of faith and moved to LA…I haven’t looked back since.
I am more of an actress than a model these days, but I accept work on a case-by-case basis. I specialize in romantic-themed and thriller movies and enjoy working with individuals in the industry that are passionate about producing high-quality work.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I tend to believe that creativity is often forged in suffering. Those of us who have experienced trauma and loss tend to feel things more deeply and therefore use that trauma to spur on performances and other works of art.
Without divulging the entire story, I grew up in a family that was not my own. I did not know my real parents, and the family that raised me, although kind, made it clear I did not belong.
I was forced to leave the home at a young age and immediately found myself without a family or guidance. I experienced homelessness for the first time and was inconsolably convinced that’s where I would remain.
Presently, I am so incredibly thankful for all that I have and I truly believe that was an experience meant to keep me humble and spark my creativity.
What do you find most rewarding about being creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is seeing one’s own progression, there’s nothing quite like it!
My skills are in a completely different place than they were when I began this journey and having the capability to see my improvements so clearly displayed on a screen is as satisfying as it is humbling.
My advice to the reader: record more videos and take more photos no matter what your profession! You may be surprised and even pleased with your own progression.
